I'm selling some baby gear on Craig's List. I don't want strangers at my home and I don't want to go their house either. I always propose meeting somewhere in the middle like a popular restaurant parking lot. Everyone has been fine with it until today. The potential buyer told me she felt like I was setting her up. I don't know exactly what that means.
Nope, I do exactly what you said - Meet in a popular, well-populated place.
I guess I would just be honest with her and tell her you're not setting her up, that for safety reasons you feel more comfortable meeting in a well-populated area for her safety and yours?

Ha, I was just thinking about putting a few things on CL and even without reading the CL suggestions, I knew I was going to want to meet in a public area. Why wouldn't people want to do the same???
Well, unless they want to rob your house. Find another buyer.

Ive done it both ways, both selling and buying. She may have been "stood up" by previous sellers and be trying to avoid that. But I think she just needs to realize it's. A chance she has yo take if she wants to buy your item.
That's the way you're supposed to do it, she's crazy. I wish I could do that but we're always selling big things. There is no way I'm loading up the washer and dryer I'm trying to sell to take it to someone who might see them and not want them. Of course now I've given the guy our address and he hasn't responded. Ugh. At least we don't live there yet.

I only let people come to my home if it's too big to haul to a public meeting place. I was freaking out when we sold our fridge and have out our address

I've done both, it really depends on the size of the item and the "vibe" I get from the person (ie. are they emailing from a work email address, does it use their actual name, are they coming off as total asshats, etc). If I meet in public it's usually in front of Starbucks which is in the middle of a busy shopping center. I've been trying to avoid Craigslist and sticking to our local resale/garage sale page for our homeowners association, though.
