Awesome! So was it 2 beds, 1 bath before? What do you have now? What about the square footage?
we went from 2 BR, 1 bath and 1350 square feet to 4 BR, 2.5 bath - entire house is about 2700 but we changed what was originally a carport then an enclosed living space back into a garage so we have just under 2400 square feet of living space. it feels enormous to me. i know some people live in 4000-5000 sq ft homes and i have NO idea what i would do with that much house!...my kids are getting lost here, lol!!!
already stumbled upon a few "should haves..." but overall very happy with the way things turned out.
It looks great! It must feel so nice to have that much space compared to what you used to have.
I love the detailing on the little roof over the front door.
thanks! my builder came up with the open porch. i like it too! i wish we had made the steps the width of the porch bc i hate seeing the concrete footings under there. i can purchase a few large planters to fix that though.
oh and also what made you guys decide to expand upward instead of outward (single story)? Just curious because I have a couple friends who keep asking for my opinion on that (they are expanding soon).
Less headache to keep the same footprint. We got the most bang for our buck going up, too...more square footage, better layout, more value added.

My sister did something similar a few years ago... popped the top and went out the back on a 2 bed/1bath (plus converted garage into a bed/bath) 800-sq ft slab house. Now they have 3000 sq feet. It does feel big. They have a small lot, so they needed to go up and not out.
Congrats on the reno and living through it. Did you use an architect or did your contractor draw up the plans?

I had the idea awhile ago, maybe after my now 3yo was conceived, so I grabbed a piece of paper and a marker and started drawing! We consulted with a friend who is an architect and owed us a favor or two but our builder was also really flexible about changing things mid-construction as I walked through and had new ideas.
We have a decent sized 1/2 acre lot but I didn't want to take away my kids play space either so up was more practical than out in that way too.
House is done, or close enough to done that we moved back home. Still have a couple loose ends to tie up, tons of cleaning to do, and lots of unpacking as well. i have a couple pics to share but there will be more later as things get more finished looking...most of my house still looks like a bomb went off but were anxious to get home after living with the ILs for 4 months.
exterior shot - our yard looks horrendous...we had trucks parked on the lawn for months and everything that requires any maintenance is now dead so ignore that and look at my house instead!
this was my girls' bedroom and now it is their playroom.
this is the former master bedroom, now a family room (the opposite side of the play area, the whole space is connected). we have minimal furniture now and nothing on the walls but we will get there eventually. speaking of furniture, H picked the couch, not me! it is very comfortable and functional but not what i pictured in there, lol!
I am terribly behind at keeping up - but YEAH!!!!!! <) SO happy to read!!!!
