Sorry, I'm a one trick pony right now.
I rarely go into the email account that is connected to my apple ID, but because my iPod was stolen I had to log in to get the serial number. Just a little while ago I noticed an email from apple on the night the iPod was stolen for a password reset.
The password was not reset (presumably because whoever initiated the request couldn't access my email), in fact, I reset it today just to be extra safe. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to all things apple, but is it possible this guy plugged my ipod in and was somehow able to initiate a password change request without knowing my e-mail address? Google is not really helping me, probably because I'm not exactly sure what to ask.

I guess I'm asking if he plugs it in, could he somehow initiate a password request with just the iPod. And maybe my name since it's on the car registration and the glove box was rifled through. The email from apple could just be a coincidence, I guess, the timing struck me as odd is all.
I do not see how he could possibly know my email address or the answers to any of my security questions so no chance of him getting in.

He could have said "change password" and then clicked on a "forgot login info" link. Then he would have gotten stuck since he didn't have your email address.
A friend of ours gave H an iPhone she wasn't using and she couldn't remember the password. We were able to restore it to factory settings and set it up with our account. Hopefully this tool doesn't think to do that.
