I was originally just going to do Amazon (so I can get the stuff that I really want, especially with their universal registry feature) and Target (for the people who really want to shop in-store - I know I am not always on top of things enough to order online in advance).
I picked Target instead of BRU or BBB because there aren't a ton of locations of the baby stores around, the nearest of each is ~30 min from me. However, I am finding the Target selection pretty limited. So now I am trying to decide what to do in addition to Amazon.
I have two--Target and Babies R Us. The BRU registry is our biggest, as they have more variety and things in stock than our local Target. My H wanted to stick with BRU as the single registry, but Target had a few things (like the PNP and travel system I wanted) so I added a few unnecessary things to that registry. No real reason why I picked those two places. They're local. I wish we had a BBB nearby.

We're only doing target. I dont really see the need to do multiple places. Thats also probably because my brother has twins that are almost exactly 2 years older and we've gotten a ton of hand me down stuff.
I did BRU and Buy Buy Baby. BRU because I'm having showers in three different states and each location has a BRU. BBB because there is one in my hometown and they have 20% coupons. :-)
Target and BRU. That's what is common in our town to do. We don't have a buy buy baby. I have way more at target since it's cheaper and there are more locations. We only have one BRU.
I picked BBB because I like their coupons and there was a brand new store just built in town.
I also picked Pottery Barn kids because I like their bedding much more than anything I could find at BBB. I was surprised that basics (crib sheets and such) were really the same price as the ones at BBB and they were much more in tune with my style. I'm not into nursery themes so I just wanted something soft and feminine.
Pottery Barn Kids, because I want their hooded towels and washcloths. Those are the only things on that registry.
Amazon, because they have everything and I want the completion discount. I doubt many people will shop from this one, but they have the best prices on most items and I'll definitely use the discount.
Babies R Us, because it's the main baby store in town, so they have everything and more, and I think that's where most people will look for our registry.
Target, because it's almost everywhere and convenient for people who don't want to make an extra trip to BRU or shop online.

Amazon only. but many of the products are not from Amazon. The people who are invited to my shower and might have trouble with that are, I think, not the sort of people who would want to buy off a registry in the first place.
And most of what I want isn't available at the chain stores anyway.

I have 2 (so far): BRU and Target. Both of those I have locally so if I need to exchange/return I can. I'm debating a BBB as well because our stroller will probably come from there and maybe some other items. The issue with BBB is that the nearest one to me is an hour and fifteen minutes away from me. However...there are a lot of locations in the Chicago area and that is where my main shower will be and where we will continue to go home and visit a lot. I don't know I'm torn.
We'll probably do 2 or 3. There's a local children's shop we'll probably set one up as well as Target and/or Babies R Us. I haven't really started looking yet to see if Target and BRU are necessary.

BRU only. Originally was going to do Target and BRU but had so many issues with my brother's wedding registry at Target and didn't want to deal with that again.
I would have registered at BBB as well but we only have 3 locations and none are at all close to me (closest is a good 50-70 miles away).
It's my second and I live in the UK. I do have an Amazon wishlist for each member of the family, but that is for when overseas families ask for ideas. And to remind me of stuff I like because I draw a blank whenever anyone asks, lol.
I have never done a registry, but I imagine they fun to do.

I did two, Buy Buy Baby and PBK. I shouldn't have done the PBK one because it is so small (but I really LOVE the few items I registered for there), and the nearest one is over an hour away. So is the closest BBBaby, but our newest Bed Bath and Beyond has the BBBaby section, so more than a handful of guests/friends got their gifts that way too. Our experience at BBBaby has been really solid--the associates at the store have been INCREDIBLY helpful, and even at the Bed Bath and Beyond store, the one associate assigned the night I went to add the register definitely spent more time with us than I would have anticipated. I felt like BBBaby offered SLIGHTLY more gender neutral options (we could also add "that were to my taste") than BRU when we were looking at our options.
If I were to do it over, I'd probably do BBBaby, and Target (publicly) and then just not tell anyone about the PBK.

Just one. This is baby #2. My friends will insist on throwing me a sprinkle with a registry, so I'll throw some diapers and small items up on a target registry.
I will make an amazon wish list for family members, though.
With C, I had two - Target and BRU. At the time, BBB wasn't really in the area and people didn't know about it.
This time, I made three, but none are public. They're all essentially for my own shopping purposes and the completion discount. I did Amazon, BRU, and PB Kids (because I'm getting bedding there this time).

I don't have any yet, but we will probably have 2, Target and BRU. I had never heard of BBB until I started posting here, so I have no idea where the closest one would be. Target and BRU are pretty universal. I love the idea of doing an Amazon one, but I feel like only a few friends would use it. We'll see what we decide on!
