Lately my hips have been killing me by the end of the day, it's even worse when I do a lot of walking. I'll be student teaching this fall and will be on my feet a lot. I need something that will be comfortable, and supportive but also dressy enough for work pants/skirts/dresses. I also have SUPER high insteps, so good arch support is important. Anybody have any recommendations?
I've heard that Sanita's Professional Clogs are okay for higher insteps - not sure if that's true as I have flat feet and have no chance of having too high of an instep, ha ha
Can you add an insert to help with support? I like Bass shoes. They have some granny shoes, but they have some cute ones too. Bass shoes are comfy.
I have started to just wear flip flops. My feet are killing me no matter what I wear. The swelling is starting to happen too. I wore ballet flats yesterday and my feet looked like sausages.
If swelling isn't an issue for you, I 2nd the crocs rec. I have to have closed toe and no slingback, so I did the Kadee. They are NOT good for swelling, since they are so flexible on the uppers. So if swelling is an issue, I'd go for danskos if you don't mind dropping the $ on them or find a good sale. Super comfy, and the clog uppers will give enough support to encourage circulation so you don't have marshmallow feet.
I strongly suggest you get slippers too (6pm often has them cheap). It's heaven on backs and knees especially while washing dishes, that sort of thing.
My podiatrist just recommended the other day that I wear Crocs when I return to school this September. I'm actually online looking at some now.
Though he did recommend them because of my swelling, I'm curious if they will help me given what FastHands has said. Maybe I'll look into danskos as well!
My work shoes seem to fit fine last week and this week my right shoe is tight but my left one still fits fine.
Not to drive any paranoia but - Typically if you have a big difference in swelling between the two feet/legs, you should keep an eye on it or let your Dr. know. It could mean something else is wrong.
My feet never would swell evenly, but the other one would catch up and there was never a huge difference (like one was normal and the other was swollen)
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm going to star browsing for crocs and dansco. I don't have an issue with swelling, but I think I must have an issue with balance. It's always my right side that hurts. I'm thinking I tend to put most of my weight on that side.

Are you out of alignment? I had a problem for awhile where my pelvis would shift out of alignment slightly. I would go back to physical therapy having to be realigned every time. As my core strengthen the problem went away. She finally showed me how to realign myself since it would sometimes happen hours after leaving so I would have to be in pain the rest if the week.
For a while my left was swelling more than my right. I asked me dr about it and she explained that it sometimes means the placenta is on that side? She said there are more serious causes for it but said I didn't have any other symptoms.. I didn't ask about the other causes.

In the beginning, only my right foot/ankle swelled. Like PP mentioned, you want to watch out for a drastic difference, but if you just noticed slight tightness vs not tight in your shoes, it's probably not a big deal. Bodies are rarely functionally symmetrical -- bigger boob on one side, longer arm/leg, sweatier armpit... all that good stuff can happen.
I am a teacher too and also on my feet all day. The most comfortable shoes for me to wear are Clark's. I can wear them and my feet feel fine all day. I always recommend them to anyone on their feet all day.
Thanx ladies. Looking at them they look the same, I don't notice any difference. It's only a slight tightness on the right side. But I will keep an eye on it.
FastHands- my right side has always been a little larger. Well at least in the boob area. Lol
