I'll be honest, I'm overweight. That being said, I've been within 20lbs of where I am now for the last 6-8 years. My OB, while acknowledging that losing weight wouldn't be a bad thing, said that she's not overly concerned with where I'm at.
It was suggested by my PCP to have bariatric surgery. I'm adamantly against it, even more so while TTC.
I've been good. I've cut out all soda (minus 4oz while having a migraine crisis) and haven't had any in 18 days. I've slowly decreased my sweet tea consumption, and for the last week I've only had unsweetened tea. I've increased my water intake dramatically.
I've made better meal selections and made a point to be more physically active.
I got on the scale tonight to see how I've done....and I've gained 2lbs. What. The. Fuck.
So. yeah. I don't know how I'm supposed to lose weight when I try and nothing happens.
Trying to lose weight sucks. I'm sorry you are discouraged. It's hard.
I normally fluctuate up and down between a few pounds. Maybe this is just a fluctuation for you? Not that it makes that number on the scale any easier to deal with. But is sounds like you've made some positive changes so that's probably all it is. Still frustrating, I know.
I'm a nurse and used to work on a surgical floor that cared for post op bariatric patients. That surgery is no joke and can lead to malnutrition in some people afterwards. So I completely agree with you not even thinking about it while TTC.
Oh, also. I always make sure to weight myself first thing in the morning, after going to the bathroom. I figured it's the time of day when I weight the least since it's before I've eaten, lol.
Hi, GPreg lurker-ish/ ML reg. I feel you & it sucks! I'm not sure if this will help you (normal ppl? Ha). When I feel like I've been following my 'rules' (which it does, indeed, sound like you've made some awesome changes!) & the scale doesn't reflect my hard work, I like to see it as God/ the universe challenging me. I mentally focus on sticking with changes/ persevering, so that I overcome this week's stick in the road & maybe even add another healthy improvement. Take that universe!! Think you're gonna win? Watcha gonna do about This?!? (Hope you got a smile & aren't writing me off as cray! I think Lochte as your avatar made me comfortable enough to post;) )

I totally understand the frustration of being overweight. I (re)started Weight Watchers at 105 over goal weight 4 weeks ago, and I'm down 8.2 pounds. I did WW a few years ago and lost 70 pounds. It works.
I find going to the the meetings to be essential to my success, so substituting with a different calorie tracker (like my fitness pal) wouldn't work as well as WW for me, but my husband has had success on both programs.
I would strong encourage a food tracking app or, at the very least, a food diary. Maybe for the first week (or more) you can JUST record what you've eaten, without worrying about calories. Then, after a few weeks, you could look for patterns and see where you could opt for better choices.
If you bite it, write it. If you snack it, track it. I think you'll notice a difference very quickly.
I am sorry, that is beyond frustrating and I am right there with you. Have you thought about joining weight watchers? I am considering joining again, I need to lose about 20-30 lbs. The support was great, and encouraged me to try more than just gradual cutting things out to have a loss at the meeting each week. Good luck!

I'm sorry you're struggling I have been lately too and just started back up using MFP last week to track food and exercise. If you'd like to join and be friends, I am HoneySpider on there too.

I'm so sorry swagger. It can be so frustrating.
Just thought I would also chime in here, that I too weigh myself in a consistent way. First thing in the morning, after the bathroom and before I eat. I can have a 2-5 lb weight fluctuation between morning and night and/or depending on where I am in my cycle.
I'm with you. I have been within the same 5 pound range for the last 2 years!!! I am older than a lot of you, and I know that plays a role in my struggles, but seriously, the weight comes on so easily, why won't it come off no matter how hard I try?!?!
I started personal training a couple of months ago and a lot of people have told me that it looks like I've lost a lot of weight, but alas, nothing. In fact, I'm at the very top of that 5 pound range right now!!!
I've tried every diet out there. WW (which I had much success with), Jenny Craig (i didn't mind the food, but didn't have that much success and it's $$$), 21 Day Fix (too hard to stick with), South Beach Diet (had some success, but I don't do well with all the food restrictions), etc etc etc. I'm deciding what my next "diet" will be... I've been doing MFP for a long time now and it's no longer working
I'm going on vacation next week, but as of Labor Day, I need to be on it hardcore (unless I get a miraculous BFP, but I'm not holding my breath on that one!).

I think you've taken some pretty appropriate first steps but it's time to step it up to the next level. I don't mean that be insulting, the first steps are the hardest, the biggest, and involve cutting out bad habits (but the ones we like the most). I think you need to really shift to drinking mostly water, meal planning, and meal tracking. You'll get there!!!
It sounds like you're on the right path...so just keeping it up will help you see improvement.
I've found that people see the best success when they: 1. Schedule workouts and make them as non-negotiable as anything else that is set for you. 2. Get on a eating plan that isn't a diet....but a lifestyle change. My doc recommends the JJ Virgin Diet to her patients. It's not a diet per say...but it has people avoiding certain food (long-term) that cause inflammation within the body...that cause weight retention. 3. Meal Planning/Cooking lunches in advance. I spend about an hour each Sunday cooking my meals for the week. That helps me make smarter choices.
I'm by no means perfect, but this is what helps me the most.

It sounds like you've made some great changes! Keep at it and you'll see some change. For me, WW really helped when losing the baby weight from having DS. I've steadily crept back up (thanks, stress of TTC #2) and now want to lose 15-20 pounds to be back where I was before getting pg with DS. So far I've really cut back on soda, eating more fruit and veggies, adding in exercise, drinking water, and trying to make healthy eating choices when we go out to eat. Good luck!

When I really stall out I have to step back and take a hard look at what I'm eating portion-wise. Definitely try MFP, the calorie goals are on the low side so don't stress about eating exactly 1200 measly calories, but just watching and understanding what you're eating can be a huge step forward. Especially with snacking! OMG snacking at work will be the death of me.
Also, if you're really working out try not to focus so much on the exact number of pounds but more on the inches you're losing. Sounds so cliche but muscle weighs more than fat, but X weight of solid fat is much larger than X weight of well muscled body!
Thanks ladies. It's just frustrating to make the right changes and not see any changes number-wise. I'm a nurse, so 3-4 days a week I'm practically running for 12-14 hours a night. It's hard to get motivated to do much more when your feet hate you on your off days! But I've been good and have been walking on the treadmill, swimming, and climbing stairs (I live on the 3rd level).
I obviously have lots of changes to make still, but I've also learned that I need to make the changes slow and steady or I won't stick with them. I'm trying to meal plan better.
Thanks for the support Hopefully this will just be a small frustrated rant and then a distant memory.
No PCOS. I do have hypothyroid that has been well-controlled. When I had my m/c in November, I asked my OB if she felt that my thyroid or weight had anything to do with it. She told me that she was happy with my thyroid levels and not concerned at all with my weight. My only other health issue is migraines. I'm a healthy fat girl lol.
