Assume that the price is the same. I am 5'11", plus size. I have thick thighs and butt, but a smaller stomach area and waist. If that helps with which might be better for my body type.
I am not self-conscious of my calves and have a couple of riding boots already. I have 1 short boot in black. I have nothing that compares to the above boot in either style.
Have you ever tried on or worn the JOA? I ask because they are some of the heaviest boots Sorel makes. Awesome and very functional but if it's just for fashion I would say the weight could be prohibitive. That alone would sway me to the shorter pair.

Hmm.. Something to consider. I have another pair of Sorels that I adore, so that's why I wanted to get another that I could wear at work (office setting) and still have dry feet.
I'd get the shorter pair. It looks like the wedges are meant to be more versatile than the regular Joan of Arctics, so I wouldn't worry about them being too warm.
