no, but my neighbor (at my parents house) has had his car and tool-shed broken into multiple times. i am definitely surprised by the area (rural), but they obviously know he has some very expensive tools in there and was targeted. so unfortunately for him, it has happened multiple times, and probably will continue wherever he moves.
yes, but it was due to stupidity . when I was living abroad in hungary, we had a door that you had to lock with a key from the inside or outside. if you didn't lock it, it often came open. my roommate left the door unlocked while I was taking a nap inside, and someone came in and stole my purse. I had just gotten cash for rent to, so was out a ton of money .
Last summer we were broken into living in Madison Valley. It's not the highest-crime neighorhood but it's pretty high by Seattle standards. We had left the bathroom window open and they used a ladder to climb to it and get it. They took the Playstation, Xbox (but not the Wii, lol) some games, W's flat iron, and her luggage probably to carry the playstation and xbox. Tried to take the computer and monitor but I had too many gizmos attached so they gave up. They missed W's e-ring (she doesn't wear it all the time) because it was with all the trashy plastic jewelry. It didn't even meet our renter's insurance deductible so we didn't bother filing a claim.
The police said that there was a ring of thefts by teenagers in the neighborhood, mostly of electronics, and that they suspected organized crime had upped what they would pay, and that everything would be on a boat to Eastern Europe within days. I have no idea how much of this they could prove.
Not my house personally, but the house that my grandparents were the landlords for while the owners lived in Saudi Arabia was. I actually don't remember anything being taken but lithe people that broke in held a huge party and ransacked the place.
I did have the person walk on my porch shining a flashlight in my windows a couple weeks ago. That freaked me out and I still have a hard time sleeping at night since I'm home alone with Edmund every night.

Someone broke into the house that I grew up in when I was a young kid. This was in Minnesota, and we were at some sports game (I think the Minnesota Kicks soccer team?). We came home and our door was broken into and our dog was in the basement. It appeared that they kicked her down the stairs. We lived in a very safe neighborhood so it definitely threw my parents. They got an alarm system after that.
We suspect someone came into our house in Ballard once (where we used to live) but we can't say for sure. One night we were watching tv with our back french doors open to let the dogs in and out. I thought I heard the sound of someone scuffing their feet across the threshold of our french doors, and when I said "is someone back there?" our dogs started barking and ran back there. But they quieted down immediately which made me think no one was there.
The next day I realized I had left my phone in my (stupidly) unlocked car and it had been stolen. As had DH's wallet. He was almost postivie his wallet had been on our dining room table but there was a possibility he had left it in the car. So maybe what we heard was someone messing around in our car?
Funny thing is I actually got my phone back. Some kid had it at Washington Middle School and the teacher thought it was strange a middle school boy had a pink cell phone (which he wasn't supposed to have out in school anyway). They confiscated it and called the number - which had been switched to ring to my replacement phone. After an investigation by the police I finally got the phone back!
Before I moved here, I had my personal laptop stolen from my work office (I had left it there overnight).
A couple years ago, my bag was stolen from my car (we live in eastern west seattle), also overnight (H had forgotten to lock it). Bad, because we were rushed or something (H was ill) ordinarily wouldn't leave my bag in the car... Wallet, cell phone, ipod...all of it, gone.
Worse, still... I discovered it because in the morning we decided H needed to go go the ER, looking for my bag in the house, then in the car - driving your husband to the ER is NOT a good time to discover a theft.
when I was about 6 I think my parent's house was broken into. my mom had bad eczema that day and didn't wear her wedding rings, so they were stolen they took that and another ring from her grandma - none of which were very valuable, just sentimental.
Not my homes, but my truck 3 times when I was going to PLU. Parkland IS the ghetto area unfortunately. One of the 3 was because my friend left the passenger door unlocked. One of those times they tried to steal the stero, couldn't get it out so JUST stole the faceplate...effers. One of those other times it was my cd case with ALL my favorite CDs (I thought it had been in my arms when I went inside but must have slipped out of the pile). That was actually the worst, I still haven't replaced onen of those. And I know those had to be crackheads because the majority were such GIRLY cds (musicals, including my French version of Les Mis).
I did vote no on the poll since it specifically said home.
