A friend of ours from college is getting married near Pensecola, FL this upcoming November. We'd like to make a somewhat vacation out of it.
1 week - Rent a house on Pensecole Beach with college friends? Are there any day trips we could do? Will we be bored out of our minds? I know it won't be particularly warm at that time of year.. but pretty nice weather, right?
few days-week - DH and I would like to do something on our own, maybe head to New Orleans (we've never been), any other suggestions?
We're from Seattle, I know very little to nothing about this area. If we go to New Orleans, we would likely fly RT through there and rent a car for those 2 weeks.
It could be warm, it won't be cold but it could be cool. You could go to Destin/30a, which has some nice beaches and cute communities along 30A (Seaside, Watercolor, Alys Beach, Grayton Beach). NO is about 3 hours from Pensacola.
We did Destin and New Orleans in the same trip last year and had a great time. H gets bored after two days at the beach so spending half our week eating/drinking our way through NOLA was a great compromise for us. I fly to PNS often for work and tickets there are always expensive for some reason - it was almost half the cost to go through New Orleans. It's not a bad drive at all, although I recommend peeing before you get to Mississippi - the rest stop we stopped at there was one of the most disgusting places I've ever been in my life.
Personally, I hate the busy-ness and commercial crap near the popular beaches. We stayed at a small (kid-free!!) B&B on a more secluded part of the beach in Destin and it was perfect.

My inlaws live in Pensacola and I think it's a nice place to visit. Weather in November can still be quite nice. You might not want to get in the water, but I think going to the beach would still be fun. There is actually a decent amount of good food in Pensacola so that could keep you busy.
My BIL lives in NO and we have done a day trip there from Pensacola and it was a long day. I think two days one night could be worth it though.

Agree. We love the 30A area and you could easily make that a day trip especially if you go to the outlet mall. There are also quite a few state parks if you enjoy hiking (or rent a bike) you could go for that.
I think we'll likely spend 1 week in the pensecola area (thanks for the suggestions, I'll check on dentin and those state parks, we love to hike!). We'll head to New Orleans for our alone vaca . I was wondering if it would be too tough of a drive from New Orleans the day before the wedding if we fly RT through there, but 3 hours is not bad at all.
