There is no reason that they should be done separately, especially considering their anatomical proximity. My only guess was a scheduling issue. You should call and have them done together. There is no way I'd pay two separate copays for that.

Sorry, I should clarify.
They're both being done together, but they couldn't schedule me in the middle of the day because they're 2 MRIs. I'm going Friday night instead. It just was weird to me.

The time it takes. You need two slots vs just one. I have the same thing with my brain and cspine
Okay, that makes sense.
I was just surprised because I thought it would just be one MRI. I didn't realize the tailbone was so complicated.
I mean, i would think they could just give you a longer slot midday, because it's not prime time. With mine it takes about 1.5 hours, and they let me come out before round 2. Lol.

I am not sure if you will be in head first or foot first, but if you are head first, i can share a tip. I ALWAYS request a washcloth to cover my eyes. I know i could close them, but the washcloth helps. They also play music to help pass time.
Is it with and w/o contrast? Mine are and they take longer.

I'm not sure. I had an MRI a few years ago for my knees, and it was with contrast. I have to get there a half hour early, so maybe with contrast?
I've just been having a lot of tailbone pain when I sit. I haven't fallen or anything, but my genetic disorder causes spinal / brain tumors in about 25% of the people affected so they want to rule that out.

This. Even when I schedule a foot and ankle MRI it becomes 2 appointments because it takes the full time slot to do each. There's a lot of stuff in our bodies!
Jalapeñomel - I'm so sorry to see that. Can they do anything to fix it?
Right now I am just going to PT. They gave me some pain killers, but it sort of just dulls the pain, but it does allow me to sleep. I have muscle relaxers, but I am too terrified to take them and sleep through the baby crying or something.
chilerellanos that is enraging! What is the deal with these doctors??? And yes, my shitty doctor diagnosed me with just x-rays, however, it was blatantly obvious that it was the diagnosis (although I don't think that is the be all, end all of the pain...I know that it's disrupting the nerves, since I get shooting pains down my leg), and even to the untrained eye, you could see the fracture and the slippage of the disc. I hoping that by changing doctors, I will get a better treatment plan then just some drugs and PT and no more 4+ hour waits.
