Just my own thoughts. Just to clarify, because I realize it didn't come out the best way, I am not saying that people feeling judged is all in their heads, all the time. Obviously people judge other people, it's human nature. But, SOMETIMES, it's in our own heads. I know it's in my head when I'm on the treadmill at the gym, worried the person behind me is staring at my extra cushion around the tummy... when, DUH, Mel, they don't give two shits about you. They're watching SportsCenter on the TV in front of you.
I mean, why do we think that way (I think that way too). We think people care because of everything that's drilled into our heads about what we SHOULD be. Go on a diet because you look fat and that's not healthy. But we KNOW that's not true. I really believe that every single one of us here knows that. That you can be fat and not be unhealthy and all the variations of that. But my dream is that we don't see images in fitness/diet advertising that idealizes a size 6.
I don't have the answer because advertising is visual. But it makes me breathe a sigh of relief to see images of people who look like me on TV.
I do think that the industry has taken some steps to adapt to pushback. I think WW has started counting more than calories and fat (correct me if I'm wrong). And I know MFP encourages you to eat back your calories if you're working out. I often see non traditional bodies re-posted by Crossfit gyms. These are ALL examples of thing I am glad my daughters will get to witness. And I can only imagine it'll get better.

It is true that marketing is the cause of many self esteem issues. However, when people allow those marketing ploys to prevent them from enjoying physical activity lest they be judged, then much of it is in their own head. I would venture a guess that almost no one is shamed in the gym but the perception that you will be shamed prevents many people from going.
I think we can do more. Again, the collective "we". Like instead of posting before/after photos of soft/tight tummies, maybe post a video of someone running up the stairs with a huge basket full of laundry!

I guess my UO is I wish there was more marketing for programs for pregnant women. I really want to work out more but I've never been very good at it not pregnant. I can't do the beachbody stuff right now and the only prenatal work out videos I've found are yoga (which there's nothing wrong with I just want more options). I kind of want to look into a trainer for awhile so that I can learn the best way to exercise for my growing body, but at the same time I'm hesitant to do it (partly because I'd feel guilty spending the money) and I'm not even sure if any of the trainers would work with a pregnant woman. Most of my gym apprehension comes from not knowing what the hell I'm doing more than what my body looks like. Yes, I can operate most of the machines but I'm clueless as far as what weights would be best for my goals/current state and what kind of reps I should be doing. I'd go to the gym WAY more if I didn't feel like an idiot and knew I was actually doing some good.
My gym does have a prenatal class once a week that I fully intend on attending now that I have my own vehicle again, but I want to do more than just a Saturday morning workout.
Funny story but for some reason I thought I could do prenatal yoga, so I bought a DVD. The instructor kept saying "look down at your baby" and things like that. Well I looked down and only saw GIGANTIC BOOBS! So I just laughed and couldn't really do much more because she KEPT SAYING IT and it was so funny to me.
I'm not sure that a trainer will work with a pregnant woman, either. HOWEVER, a physical therapist who specializes in pregnancy might be able to refer you to someone.

I am proud of myself for getting up and doing my home DVD workouts everyday. My h is doing them everyday as well. I tried to do c25k, I hurt my knees really bad, plus we have no time to run. I do not want to go to a gym due to time and money. This program is working for me right now to get healthy and stronger. I know I will never be the size two I was in high school. But I want to look at myself and be with okay with how I look.
This program is working for me right now at this point in my life, I don't care what the hell it is called.

Regina Philange, I took a trapeze class. My BFF and it thought it was club-med type trapeze, but really it was SO hard. I could not walk or use my hands after the first class.
I also took a yoga class in college. So I got college credit for stretching

Would this be the wrong time to propose my new fitness plan to everyone? You send me $500, and in return I mail you a thigh master and an old sweating to the oldies DVD.
Hot yoga is the best. My h also thought it was glorified stretching until he went with me. After spending 90 mins sliding around his mat and dripping in sweat he gave me props lol. I think some of you have been to crappy yoga classes. Every single one I have been to has explained the modifications of each pose at each pose automatically. Also, I always have to sign a waiver and agree to be touched if I want them to manually adjust my poses.
I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT BE SHAMED for wanting to be stronger. I do not think that creates or promotes a poor body image. Dixee if you were able to run upstairs and no longer be winded it was because you had become STRONGER. I think as a mom who wants her child to have a good role model, to me, stronger is a good thing! It shows that I care enough about myself and my family to take good care of my body. I have a long way to go but I do strive to be stronger.I also struggle with injuries so perhaps that plays a role.
I should also mention that most of the programa have a maintenance program/schedule that you start when you have met YOUR goals, not when you have a "Beachbody"
Also, not everyone exercises to have a certain body type. Some people do it as an outlet as well. I have certainly noticed the benefits on stress/anxiety.

This might truly hurt some people:
I think its so freaking weird to wear matching family Christmas jammies (mom, dad, 3 kids, and dog all in red/white striped pajamas with green trim) What do you do with them after christmas? Do you wear them randomly throughout the year?
#bahhumbug (running to hide in the corner for shit storm to start)

My kids wear their xmas jammies until it's time for short sleeves. Adeline wore some last night!
But mine are sacred. They get tucked away in a special place until the season comes. Then AND ONLY THEN will I wear them. And boy, do I wear them with PRIDE!

I might be getting a little too pissed off in here today. I feel like that keeps happening in some threads lately.
And that makes me wonder. It makes me wonder if I am the one who needs to evaluate or if it's someone else who frequently gets me riled up but isn't as invested.
Ooooh do they have the Bye, Bye, Bye dance on there?
When I was in high school, one of the activities we did in gym class was step aerobics (lame) and we had to choreograph our own. My friend and I just did the NSYNC dance. On a step.
