Both since I wasn't sure where I wanted to apply. ACT is more popular here in the Midwest or at least was at the time.

I took both, but I believe act was more common in the Midwest , sat on the coasts.
The test have been revamped several times since then. So it's not quite the same now.

SAT only in the late 90's in the South. I didn't know of anyone who took the ACT unless it was for a specific school's application.
