Lately I've been having to check myself when it comes to D&R.
We are insulating (technically we are paying someone) our 1929 Dutch Colonial and because of the roof line, they are going to need to blow some in from the inside. They patch the holes, so we just need to do paint touch ups, but not going to lie, I'm really tempted to ask him if we can just skip those spots.
This is going to be worth it, right? We will see savings on our bills?
I feel like it's worth doing it in your case, paint touch ups aren't so bad.
After being anti-vinyl pretty much forever I just bought enough 12 x 24'' vinyl tile to do my mudroom/powder room area on the first floor. I just don't want to have to deal with a tile saw and all that crap that goes along with ceramic.
We might also be putting laminate flooring in upstairs instead of hardwood. I'm still iffy on that one. I don't think it will hurt our resale value, but I've never been a fan of laminate. The cost savings would be pretty huge.

I'll make my husband do it
Did you get the groutable kind? I am a flooring SNOB, but I'm actually very impressed with that product. I'm iffy on the other laminate. We had it in our last house, but had no issues selling because of the price point and the fact that comps had carpet.

It is groutable and I'm right there with you on the snobbery. If it was any room but the mudroom/powder room I probably wouldn't make the compromise, but it's the closest thing I've seen to real tile yet.
Most of our comps will have a mix of flooring types, but our 'hood can support the hardwood upgrade. The fact that we have it throughout the first floor (everything but the mudroom/powder room) will definitely help a lot since most people only have it in one or two rooms. The upstairs probably is overkill, but I <3 hardwood. I'm just not sure if makes sense to spend the extra $$ especially when we're eventually going to have kids who might be a bit rough on it.
Don't skip the insulation. Imagine how comfortable you will be! I bet you will be blown away (no pun intended) after it's done since you have such an old home.
I don't have any flooring needs right now, but if I did I would look at the groutable tiles. They look pretty interesting.
Oh, and my half assery is and always has been not hanging things on the walls. I get very indecisive about framing and placement and actually getting everything level. Kinda stresses me out. I prop pictures up, like on the mantel or our dresser to avoided hanging them.

Can you tell me more about the grout able vinyl? I have never heard of it. What are you installing it on top of.... Subfloor? Slab? Are you doing it yourself? Seems like a good possibility for my sun room.

We still have things only on the walls upstairs. My DH is like you, he likes to get it perfect. I'll eyeball it. I'm going to throw all the stuff on the wall downstairs next weekend, I hope.

My entire life is half-assed these days if that makes you feel better.
The trim on my steps still isn't right and I have no desire to fix it. The playroom needs paint touchups, my house is only clean because of Swiffer and Clorox Wipes and not actually clean. I could go on. Our lawn also needs some work but it was super dry and now super wet and almost fall and I'm over all of it. I think I'm paying someone to come weed/feed/take care of it all.

We half-ass things all the time, but usually only things that we can easily fix ourselves in the future if we want. In your case what would happen if you decide a year from now that you DO want insulation in those spots? I imagine it would be a bigger hassle and cost more than if you did it now. If that's the case I'd suck it up do it. However, if you could easily change your mind in the future without any negative consequences, then half-ass away!
