What's going to make you happier -paying for a railing in which there's no urgency to replace or wearing a beautiful vintage ring? You deserve it. Get it. PIP the ring.
Sorry but that's beautiful, you should get it. I do understand how you feel though. I often think about all o the other things we can be using the money for.
I often justify the cost of something to myself by doing the "cost per wear" calculation. If you wear it everyday, the CPW goes down pretty quickly.
I do this, too! OP, I won't lie, it's not my style, but it's clearly yours, and you've budgeted for it and you're not starving your kids or making them reuse diapers, right? Then get it and enjoy it. Enjoy it is the most important part, though. If you're going to feel guilty wearing it, you won't wear it, and that cost per use will skyrocket. It's a pretty unusual ring though, so if this is the one you're supposed to have you may not find it again!

Consider how happy it's going to make you when you wear it. The debit you see in your bank account is going to fade away. You'll hardly remember what you spent on it a year from now, but that ring is still going to make you smile. Pull the trigger; what are you waiting for?

I struggle with the same thought process all the time and find ways to justify it to myself. If it's in the budget and you love it and will wear it a lot then go for it.
Oooh, that's really pretty. I forget if you have kids, or nieces and nephews, that you could pass it down to. Would that make it easier for you to go ahead and get it?

Well, we do use cloth diapers, and we're using the same ones for T as we had for M. So...
