by police? Because that happens, too and it's swept under the rug, as well. Air it all out, while we have the chance.
And I'm sorry, I'm not posting all this stuff against police because I hate them, some are fantastic. It's just that this has been such a toxic relationship for Black men and women for decades and the mainstream has never really caught on to it so since we have people's attention I think we should really get into it.
Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw, 27, was arrested Wednesday after allegedly sexually assaulting at least six women while on duty. Police chief Bill Citty said at a news conference yesterday that Holtzclaw would "stop the women while he was working, force them to expose themselves, fondle them, and in at least one instance had intercourse with a woman." To get the women to comply, he allegedly threatened to arrest them.
Holtzclaw, who, as the Associated Press helpfully points out, was a star football player in high school and college, is being held on complaints of rape, forcible oral sodomy, sexual battery, and indecent exposure. His alleged victims are all black women between the ages of 34 and 58. The department learned of the allegations in June, when one victim came forward, and Holtzclaw's been on leave since then. Citty explained:
"We started the investigation and we started looking at traffic stops he had made throughout the previous months to try to identify and initiate contact with females that we knew he had stopped during that period of time ... to see if they had been sexually assaulted."
The Oklahoman reports that Holtzclaw "worked the 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. shift," and that the alleged assaults mostly "happened at the location of the stops, but some victims were taken to remote locations."
I read about this yesterday, as well as another bad cop story, and have decided that August, 2014, is asshole cop month. Please note he was a star football player school in high school and college, where I'm sure he had ample opportunity to learn how to be a worthless POS to women.
ETA: the WaPo piece is good, thank you for posting.
Thanks for posting this. This is my argument for everyone to focus on both Black males and females. All of these experiences have implications for the other.
Thank you so much for posting this. There is a damn reason they had that scene in Crash. Honestly I can't watch that scene anymore, horrifying.
And then, just like in 12 Years, her man sitting there feeling helpless when his woman is being hurt. If he steps in, then HE gets hurt., jailed, beaten, possibly killed. If he doesn't, then she hates him. No win in that situation. That occurring over and over and over has caused so much trouble in the relationships between black men and black women IMO. So so much. Men feeling impotent, helpless, not good enough; women feeling like they can't trust or rely on them as partners, mates, fathers, protectors etc.
I've seen this happen in so many ways---and the effects are cumulative over time. A good example is Black male unemployment and how it has impacts far beyond the economic domain. Men feeling that they're kids/families are better off without them, etc. Also, this is why we see the "Superwoman schema" so often in Black women.

Holy shit. I am incredibly naive and had no idea this was happening. Those poor women. Imm so glad one came forward and hope she emboldens others to do the same so every asshole cop who rapes women will spend the rest of their life in jail.
Nah, he looks like an asshole Neanderthal (sorry if I'm insulting any Neanderthals with the comparison). The devil/Lucifer was supposed to be one of God's most beautiful and intelligent and charismatic angels before the fall. This guy ain't it.
I saw the article the other day but didn't read it in depth as I was otherwise engaged. I didn't realize he was focusing on a specific "type"...I thought he was a general fuckhead rapist cop who didn't discriminate in who he terrorized. Not that that doesn't make him a piece of shit either.
But yay, he was a football player. So were thousands of other men who AREN'T piece of shit rapists.
