What a time for me to have just given away all of the books!
The thing that got me about the series is that it was pretty ridiculously violent, but all of the sex (even the sex that made babies and was a plot point of sin) was totally glossed over... unless they were talking about Buck the 30 year old jet setting virgin.
I just found mine in the garage! In boxes of books that have been packed away for I don't know how many years...decades even! They just moved with us. I remember having them when my oldest was just born...and she's 30 now. Looks like I have to read them again so I can compare the movie when it comes out. Like Grisham, only better (or worse.)
They were filming it in my town (Baton Rouge). The lady at the lifeway bookstore in the mall accosted me to tell me how excited she is. And that she posted on the FB page about how she can't wait for the rapture.

Your timeline is way off or you are thinking of different books.
The first one came out in 1995 and they were pumping them out about 1-3 a year into the early 2000s. Then they did a sort-of prequel that was about the anti-Christ in the years leading up to the rapture, but the first book of that was lame and I never read the others.

Timeline is off. I just went out to the garage and checked and it is the Left Behind series (LaHaye/Jenkins). But I just went through the box again and with them I found the missing Harry Potters, my real Grimm's Fairy Tales (not that sanitized Disney fluff) and ALL HORSES GO TO HEAVEN that I can give to GD. I thought that went with all the books that were tossed out of my dad's house when I was in college. Now, THAT book I've had for at least 35 years. Yay! Good thing I'm cleaning out the garage.
I was thinking I got the books when I took a seminar on the Book of Revelations when DD1 was a newborn and I was living with mom/stepdad. Got me out of the house and them babysitting (free! even) for an approved curriculum.
