B also just weaned (knock on wood, she hasn't nursed since Sunday morning) and my boobs were also killing me. So I'm here for boob commiseration. I hope yours feel better soon!
I'm weirdly impressed that your boob hurts. When my twins weaned (at 17 months) I was making so little milk that I didn't have to do anything. 4 years of your body making enough milk to need to be dried up is incredible.

RIGHT?!?! i'm kind of shocked, too! it has been super duper gradual too! i thought i'd be golden. they're not hard or anything but if i get mastitis after four freaking years i'm going to be pissed.
ow.
Yeah, I am impressed too. I weaned at 28 months and I feel like my boobs could haved cared less. I had no fullness or anything (they did keep making milk forever though).
I weaned after DS turned 3 a few months ago and wanted to throw a party - but no one knew I was still nursing so it was a lonely celebration. My boobs didn't even care. I hope you enjoy your new freedom!
If you take a Sudafed, it's supposed to help dry you up. (I suggested this in another group and was jumped on for using medicine for it's non-intended purpose.)
But 4 is awesome! I'm just hoping to get to 1 year!
Saudafed dries up fluid. I'd say that is exactly the intended purpose!
I only nursed DD until she was 2, which I would have previously thought was crazy, but I feel like I get it know. You've been nursing from birth, it's a daily part of your relationship, and doesn't seem at all strange when you've always done it. I feel like when people judge, they look at a (2 or 4 or whatever-year-old) and try to imagine nursing them and, yeah, it would be pretty weird to start nursing an older kid but when it's something you've always done, it's just something you've always done. If that makes any sense at all.
It's been a few weeks for us and DD and I both still feel a little lost without it.

Fuck! I forgot about this. I have a weird sinus thing going on and the doc told me to take the good sudafed twice a day. It didn't even occur to me to mention I was nursing!
frkls - you're an LC, right? WDYT? Also, congrats on four years!

sudafed dries up eeeeeeehr-thing. unless you are drowning in oversupply, i'd stay away
Damn. My sinuses are really bothering me! She's only ten months, though. My supply tanked and my son ended up weaning when he was ten months (I went back to work and had issues with the pump), so I guess I better skip it.

that sucks. do you neti pot? that thing saved me. Phenylephrine is safer
Thanks for the link. I was also prescribed a nasal spray that's listed as "moderately safe". I can't BELIEVE I didn't mention that I was nursing!! What a fail.
