I have been doing some "laps" at my pool lately and really enjoying it. I can get back and forth fine but my strokes/breathing are far from perfect. So i took the plunge (ha) and had a talk with the aquatics director aand signed up Level 3 adult class. He said if i get there and it is not helping i can go up a level. So we'll see.
I basically am excited about learning how to flip turn.
Once i get better at this i can toy with a small tri idea.
has anyone done swim class as an adult? Any tips to get the most out of this? I took classes as a little kid but it had been a llooonnggg time.
i be typing from me phone. typos and grammer dont count.

Good luck! I think I am going to do this after the new year. I've seen some improvements recently with my swimming, but I would like to get even faster.
I did, when i wanted to start swimming. We worked on flip turns (mine SUCK), and a lot of stroke correction. The endurance level of the class greatly varied, but there was a little of that.
Ask lots of questions! And just be sure youre getting out of it what you want, if its too easy or hard, speak up.

I took lessons at the beginning of this year at my YMCA. I had lessons as a kid, so I was comfortable in the water, but my technique was junk. It was a small class (5-7 people each session), so our coach was really able to watch us and provide feedback. I second what someone else said - be sure to practice at least once a week outside of your class. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We learned the basic components of the different strokes, and some were a little hard to get just by the coach's verbal instructions. Have fun!
I never had formal swimming lessons when I was little but have always been comfortable in the water and self taught myself how to swim.
This is me. I love the water, but have nothing resembling good form or breathing. I wish we had a Y that I could take lessons at! I really want to do a tri at some point, but need to improve my swimming
