I was before we moved. I enjoyed it, though there was def a large time commitment. And while dues weren't bad ($80ish), the other stuff added up. We had to sell so many tickets to our large holiday event. And get silent auction items. And work the event. It was a PITA.
I didn't transfer my membership when we moved and I prob won't.
Yeah, I'm definitely asking about financial commitment tonight if I go. $80 isn't too bad and this one doesn't sound like some of the stuffy southern chapters, so we'll see.

I like it- it's fun if you don't take it too seriously. And I'm in a stuffy, southern chapter. I like volunteering and I liked having someone setup everything and then just showing up and doing my part. I have a few good friends and a few people I roll my eyes at, but most people are fine.
Definitely depends on your area. I was really involved in JL where I lived before. The time commitment wasn't enormous (range from about 3-20 hours a month depending on placement. When I was treasurer, it was a lot more than other jobs). The financial commitment was $300/year I believe for my area. When I moved to a larger city, I resigned. It was much more difficult for me to maintain the involvement I wanted to when I had a much longer commute (and also I am divorced now & it's just harder to justify that time away from my family).
It really is a great way to get involved in the community, to learn how to be a "trained volunteer," gain good skills, put your existing skills to work, and make friends.
I adored Junior League. I met so many fun people and we did lots of fun events and volunteering. I'd still be a Leaguer if it weren't such a pain in the ass to get to meetings.
I am not, but I have a coworker who is. It doesn't sound like something that would interest me at all. Big time commitment, being fake friendly w/ people you don't like and catty about them behind their backs, knowing they're probably doing the same to you - no thanks.
I am a member in a very affluent area of Michigan, and this was definitely a concern of mine before I joined. However, 98% of the women I've met have been genuinely nice and helpful, and the other 2% left the league.
Also, the financial and time commitments are different for each league. In fact, I believe our time commitment for volunteerism is a bit too low.

There are a ton of women from my sorority panhellenic board in JL and I like most of them, so I'm not terribly worried about the fake friendly.

What do I wear to this thing tonight, though?
People came to our Open House dressed up. Most of the women had on dresses.

Yeah, wear something business casual-y. I wouldn't wear jeans, but a nice dress would be completely appropriate.

Outfit ideas? The problem with working from home is not having enough business casual dresses. I don't have any undershirts or shapewear on. wannabepeachdragon

I'm in the league. I joined when all of my friends seemed to move away at the same time and it has been a great way to meet new people and network. I'm in the south, and everyone dresses up to all of our meetings but no one has been snobby or rude. Our dues are about $250 a year and include a ticket to our major events. The time commitment as a provisional is a lot more than when you become a regular member. I vote for the striped or pink!
I'm involved with the JL here and I really like it. There are a lot of great volunteer opportunities and the time commitment isn't too bad. I love the chapter's focus and they do a lot of good in the community.
Having to get to meetings when I was a provisional was a bit of a PITA, but otherwise I've enjoyed it. People are really down to earth - it's a diverse crowd. And people show up to meetings in anything from yoga pants to the suits they were wearing at the office that day.
