I know. I have literally jaw-dropped at him, "I can't believe you said that!" and he shrugs it off. It's really changed my perspective on this.[/quote] (Sorry, I'm all over this post. It is just such an interesting subject to me.)
My H can be boisterous, loud, extremely direct, honest (almost) to a fault, etc. I think that has all worked in his favor. In fact, I think that he is liked/valued FOR those qualities. I can't imagine a woman acting like him in the workplace. She wouldn't make it through her first performance review.
(Not knocking my H, I value those attributes in him, just saying that if I wouldn't dare interact with others at work in the same way that he can/does.)
It's interesting that I've never really confronted sexism at work until my female boss started.
Do you think it's a competition or projection thing? I've mostly had male bosses (and experienced it there, as with male co-workers, and male clients), but I have seen women (both as superiors and colleagues) being weirdly competitive and tending to throw the other women under the bus and making it more personal in nature, than 'just business'.
h Humble is such an odd compliment for a lawyer. Most lawyers are not humble. It's not in our DNA.
I agree! I found it bizarre as well, but it actually appeared on my performance review when I was a baby lawyer. I think it is the only time anyone has ever called me that .
