How long would this be useful? (kids storage)

We need something for the entry way for the Kids,

It is a preschool one the kids are in K in PreK.

We have a very small space (27.5 inches wide) and I am not that creative.

It looks too small for a kindie kid now.

Ar 4' tall and just over 1 1/2' wide it too small to store much at all. You've basically got 9" in which to cram a winter coat and a backpack?

That's the size of the "lockers" at DS1's preschool and like a pp mentioned, you can't cram a backpack and winter coat in it. So instead, the contents of everyone's lockers are sticking out all over the place, even though they're hung up correctly.

Are you just looking for hanging space, or does there need to be the part on the bottom for shoes? (Which, IMO, doesn't work very will with my experience, especially if they're boots or other tall shoes)

Blah.  My thought too. I was hoping I was being too critical.

I like the size for the girls (height), and the separation, but I would like a little more than 9 inches.  I just didn't want to have to build one.  BLAH.

Hanging for their stuff and shoes would be nice, but not essential.  I was thinking of getting 2 of these store.closetmaid.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10201&storeId=10151&langId=-1&top_category=10001&parent_category_rn=10054&categoryId=10087&productId=10449

and putting one on the wall, adding hooks and then one on the floor for shoes.  

Think it would be hard to put a divider up?
