Except, on our way back down, my border collie decided that he was not going to walk anymore. He laid down on the trail, about .5-.75 miles from the car. At first, I was really worried because I thought he was overheated and really in trouble (I had been making them drink a TON of water, but I always am paranoid about this when I hike with my dogs). But then I noticed some blood on his foot. Turned out he had cut the paw of his foot and it was hurting him to walk.
I ended up having to carry my 70 lb dog at least a half a mile back to the car. Also, while walking the other one.
I still can't feel my arms, and that was about three hours ago. They're still shaky.
I took him straight to the vet, and got everything all checked. He's just fine, but needs to leave them (turns out he cut them all up a bit) alone for a few days. Now he has to wear booties. And, if he doesn't leave them alone, I have a cone of shame ready and waiting.
Wow- you are strong! I'm so glad your doggie is ok. That photo makes me smile. I have a feeling he'll leave the boots alone, because nothing is worse than the cone of shame....hope he heals fast (and that you get the feeling back in your arms)

Wow your strong! I don't think I could carry my 80 lb golden retriever even one hundred feet! I hope he doesn't have to have the cone of shame and he heals fast!
One of my cousins used to have a 120 lb. black lab, and they took him hiking out in CO and he cut his pads up too. They had to carry him down; I am not even sure how one does that with a dog that size. Over the shoulder? Anyway, I am glad for you that it was less than a mile! And glad for your pup that he has a badass momma to carry him!

Oh. My. God. I can't even imagine. My parents lab is 120 lbs, and I'm trying to imagine carrying him. Holy crap.
