I stand by it. my first thought was that it was probably leaked on purpose to aid careers, to be honest, kinda like Kardashian's sex tape.
What I find funny is that everybody always says, "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" on this board, but when someone actually says that these celebs were stupid, all of a sudden it's scandalous. I didn't know that thinking Ariana Grande, Kate Upton, and Jennifer Lawrence weren't the sharpest tools in the shed was controversial.
Sorry, I'll be going. Forgive me that I intruded on the circle jerk.
I think Ariana Grande is probably not that bright. Kate Upton strikes me as very aware and Jennifer Lawrence seems smart enough.
What I took exception to was the idea that welp, the fact that their phones were hacked or that they take nude selfies somehow confirms their idiocy. I think that's a pretty silly tack to take here.
But yeah, total circle jerk. Are you even reading the thread?
ETA: I don't see how any of these girls needs a leaked phone selfie to get attention though.
You know when Target got hacked I don't recall a single person blaming the people who were dumb enough to use their credit cards while shopping there.
Maybe not. But if you didn't change your online passwords after the recent major cyber breach, I'm going to have a similar reaction if your identity gets stolen that way.

I don't know anything about Ariana, but Jennifer and Kate decidedly do not need attention. They are at the top of their industries right now, not D-listers trying to stay relevant.
I will stand by being surprised that people are surprised by this. I don't even know if this is a celeb thing for me, because as I stated in the other post, all it really takes is someone willing to put the effort into hacking you and I'm sure young people in high school have these skills. I don't think these celebs did anything wrong and I think it's a gross violation (and I commend Jennifer Lawrence for copping to the photos because that means she can pursue the person who did it and I think that's a really important component in fighting these sorts of things), but I'm still not surprised it happened and I don't know that they really should be either. However, they probably are, because people seem continually surprised that this sort of thing can happen until it happens to them. We all make risk assessments, and one of mine is what I do with my phone. Part of my risk assessment is a reliance on people not giving a shit what I am up to or taking pics of. I think if I were a celeb, my risk assessment would be different. If I were a teen, my risk assessment would be different, because it seems far more prevalent among that age group. But again, it appears to be human nature to ignore that these things could happen to you, or determining that the risk is small enough to risk it.
I mean, for real, people cover up the cameras on their computers and on their smart tvs or whatever. This is not new info that these devices in our lives can be used against us. It's disgusting and disturbing, and that doesn't mean that those who do it are entitled to get away with it. Far from it. They should be prosecuted and made to pay for what they do. Again, I give Jennifer Lawrence major props for saying "yep those are my pics" and can now make that person pay. It's still not surprising that it happens, though. At least to me. And I do think people should protect themselves as much as they can. But I'm certainly not blaming them for it happening. It's still a foreseeable event though, IMO. Just like using a debit card at target with your pin number is incredibly stupid to me, and something I don't do. It's a risk too much for me.

Ariana's at the top of her game right now, the top she's probably going to get but at the top nonetheless. This is something she might need/be looking for in about two or three years maybe. But for now, she's fine.
She's also 21, which isn't at all relevant to the thread, just something that blows me away when I look at her. I mean she's older than Lorde.
To me, this is nothing more scandalous or unexpected than using a shady wifi connection and getting your bank account hacked.
I also don't understand the worldview that there is a whole pie of blame in any situation and that to say one could reasonably do something not at all invasive or troublesome to help protect yourself means you're somehow lessening the grossness of whatever happens next.
And I'm really sick of the shock and awe, pearl clutchy OMG, THIS board!! response to this topic. I don't think it's anything new that there are a slew of us who think that while the world should be better, we should practice situational awareness as well. We aren't a monolith and you all damned well know it.

I'm the first to roll my eyes at the pearl-clutchers who post on this board only to tsk-tsk at everyone here, but this thread really is surprising to me for the reasons already stated. So I say go ahead and clutch.
This happened when the photographer took pictures up Kate Middleton's dress a few months ago. People here said if she had just done x, y, and a differently, it would never have happened.

I too am surprised at the victim blaming.
We should tell people 'DON'T HACK INTO OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY AND SPREAD IT' instead of 'Well, if you never took the nudes with your private property it would never have happened.'
And, B.S. to the claim that they are celebrities, so deal. Fuck that noise. No one deserves that regardless of career.

I am just surprised that people take the pictures they take. Nude selfie? Fine whatever. Penetration and facial pictures? That is not something i can imagine taking a picture of. Assuming those were real. To each ones own i suppose.
Still disgusting that someone stole and distributed them
