Most of my birthdays are low key/relaxing at home. We don't exchange gifts or do much of anything. But my favorites have been:
28 - Last year I spent the entire day with my grandma. I took her, my cousin, and aunt/uncle out for dim sum. My uncle was so pissed that I went behind his back to pay lol.
25 - H and I flew to Munich to pick up my new car then did a 2400 mile road trip. We were in France on my birthday. The trip had nothing to do with my birthday but I really enjoyed it.
21 was pretty great for me, too. I was home for Thanksgiving break. My parents rented a limo to take my three best friends and me bar hopping in the nearby college town. We had an absolute blast. Only downside was that we all had to drive back to school the next day, hungover on the busiest travel day of the year.
I liked 18 because I could vote, 21, so I could drink, 25 so I could rent a car (which was a big deal for me as I travelled a lot for work)
As for celebrations, 30 was great as I met my H a few days after and my friends threw me a great surprise party. 40 was also great as we did a trip to Cancun. We do something every year. Birthdays are a big deal to me.
I already broke the rules and started talking about 23 in the other thread, so I'll mention 21.
My girlfriends and I went out for karaoke and college bar hopping. I ran into my freshman year high school newspaper editor, who was in town for a conference. My friend made one of those obnoxious "21" signs for me to wear around my neck with different dares. We all got free drinks because of said sign, and I ended up getting a foot massage at the bar. Sounds gross now but this was AWESOME after teetering around in too-tall, cheap F21 heels.
20. A bunch of folks came down to my father's lake house, while it was still a vacation home. Cause me dad was nice enough to give his lake house to 2-dozen college kids. It was epic.
I also talked about mine in the other post, but 29 was awesome. My bachelorette party was the night before, and while I was cranky that 2 of my bridesmaids didn't make it, alot of other friends and cousins did, and we had a great time! It rained the day of my actual b'day, but that was fine. I spent it with my my DH and my family. I was super excited to be getting married in a few weeks and life was good.
30th - went to Vegas and DH for me a nice pair of diamond studs. It overlapped with a work conference for him so we got to hand out with some of his employees later in the weekend which are great too.
For my 16th, my parents got me a gas credit card. For my 18th, I got a general cc (still have today) and I was excited to have a boyfriend, doing well in school, and soon heading to college.
I can't remember the details, but I know I had a great day once... I just remember thinking it had been a full day of good things.
Nothing else is standing out in my mind, even though I was in Vegas one recent birthday. Sounds like I need to plan something epic for my 35th.
41. We went to San Diego, did the zoo and a "backstage tour", did a Gondola cruise in the bay, then departed on a Mexican Riviera Cruise. My best friend was an officer on board our ship and we had an awesome suite. I got to go up on the bridge and hang out with the captain. We swam with Sea Lions in Puerto Vallarta, got the best massages and the Pastry Chef made me a gorgeous cake FULL of rum. Oh and I hit an $1800 jackpot on my birthday. Fabulous.
My DH always does something great for my birthday...so I have several lately that were really good.
28 I was in Spain visting my parents. DH and I snuck out to the Hawaiian bar in Madrid, got really drunk on volcanoes, checked into a hotel and had hot hotel sex. Then walked around downtown Madrid at midnight and ate churros. Epic hangover the next day, lol...
29 we rented a private room at Urban Farmer (a trendy delicious restaurant) and hosted 35 of our friends, then stayed the night in a fancy hotel room.
30 I planned a "cupcakes and cocktails" party. The day after I mailed the invitations, found out I was unexpectedly pregnant. I was ~8 weeks on my birthday, miserable, nauseous, exhausted, swollen, etc. DH surprised me with a gorgeous new purse and inside were new diamond earrings

16- I got a phone for my room. That was a big deal in my house. 30- Had a lovely party at a rooftop bar. It was unseasonably nice for the summer in the South so we were able to go outside to the patio too. 32- I was finally pregnant!!!! 35- (this year) was pretty good on my husband's end, he bought me a pair of diamond studs and a cookie cake. My parents sucked at it though which was bad because we were at their house.

30 was awesome. I had a great party with family and a few friends. The cake was fantastic. I had beautifully decorated cookie favors, great good, etc.
However, the best part of if, was at that time my mother was about 3 months post-stroke and at that time was doing fantastic. It was great to see her doing so well.
Sadly, she went downhill a few months later, but that birthday was extra special because she was alive and well.
