hi! I'm usually on MMM, but figured I'd come over here. I am 5 weeks pregnant and also have an 18 month old dd.
My birthday was this weekend and DH got gave me a certificate for 3 hot stone massages. Google is giving me conflicting info... Do you think a hot stone massage is a bad idea? I'm dying for one on my back. Or do I need to change it to a prenatal massage? (sorry for the bump like questions; )
My spa won't do massage at all until you hit 14 weeks and then they only allow prenatal massages.
My doc is all for them, but I think a lot of places are overly cautious about massaging pregnant women.
Yep. This. Losses are more common in the early months and places do not want the liability of being blamed.
I have had massages throughout my pregnancy and my place will only do it with a certified prenatal therapist and I needed a note faxed from my dr ensuring he was Ok with it.
I had a hot stone massage at 5 weeks (was scheduled before I even found out). It was totally fine, I did not tell them I was pregnant. I just made sure I wasn't getting overheated in the room.
I had a few massages in first tri. They had to be Swedish because my masseuse said she couldn't dig in as much, and she stayed away from my feet/ankles. Massage in first tri was a godsend as my muscles got all out of whack.
