I notice that I swell on days that I go to work. I think between sitting at my desk all day (as opposed to working at my coffee table at home), walking around the office, different shoes, commute, etc I just swell more. I have noticed that this results in a good 2+ lb difference from my normal weight.
Also, a couple weeks ago we went camping and I had some swelling. It seemed to last about two days before going down, whereas normally I can get the swelling to go down the next day.
Hope your swelling returns to normal tomorrow or you at least get some answers from your doctor. Hopefully it's normal pregnancy stuff that will resolve with a little extra rest and fluids.
I got really swollen while I was out of town this weekend, from flying, the heat, and being on my feet more. It was mostly my ankles and feet, but I noticed it in my hands and face too. Putting ice on my ankles helped, but I'm still puffier than usual (we got back last night).
ETA - I didn't think about weighing myself, I'll do that in the morning.
I'm not sure when it's scary, but I know a friend was in her last 2 weeks and they wanted her to come in 2x/week because she had swelling so bad - her feet were so puffy/swollen it looked visibly uncomfortable.
Mostly anytime I've been swollen (after flights, or being on my feet a lot without resting) I usually see it go down within a couple of days...it's important to get your feet level/higher than your heart I've heard, so I lean back in our recliner which gets my ankles/feet elevated.
I try to up my water intake, and usually have a gatorade or something to make sure I'm well hydrated too.
Other than that I'm not sure, hopefully your doctor can tell you more tomorrow and you can update us
I've had swelling like that. First pregnancy around 20 weeks I did a long late night drive and had a McDonald's shake (full of sodium). I got out the car and my lower legs were huge. My BP was fine.
I've noticed I get extra puffy in my legs and hands when I am doing a lot of standing late in the day. I need a good mix of moving and resting to keep the swelling at baby. Also, if I'm even a bit dehydrated I swell up even more.
Hope it is nothing serious and your appointment goes well.
I would just monitor it and make sure it goes back down. I've had swollen feet before from standing. I sit all day at work and that doesn't seem to bother me but I always put my feet up when I get home and notice that if I am sitting in the evening or standing then I start to swell in my toes. My rings don't fit anymore but I don't think my hands are that swollen, could also be fat.
I was super swollen and so puffy with dd. I gained like 15 or 20 lbs in the last 5 weeks, a lot if which was water. My blood pressure was always fine and I didn't have any protein in my urine - some people just swell!
Those medical compression socks/hose that are really dorky looking do help. So does drinking lots of water, limiting salt/sugar, and soaking in Epsom salts.
I'd try to manage it and not stand so much starting now. I know that could be easier said than done. You gotta drink a lot more water and it will help too.
I had horrible swelling with my first so they are closely monitoring me this time. My OB recommended putting a phone book under the foot of my mattress to help elevate my feet while I slept. It is much easier than the pillow fortress I had been trying to create.
I've been horribly swollen now for months. At first it was scary b/c it wasn't "a bit puffy" but so bad that I could not bend my feet at the ankle. My ankles looked like they were both broken they were so swollen. Nothing would make them go down: not drinking water, elevation, ice baths, or compression socks. I would wake up the same way I feel asleep.
But, my BP has been low and there was never any protein in my urine, so my Dr. is OK with the swelling. He assured me that it poses no risk to the baby and is just a PITA to deal with. I just got back from my last appt. a few minutes ago and I'm really swollen again and he said I have really bad edema but again, it's harmless.
Also, I'm very sure my massive weight gain is due to water retention. I, too, would go up 4-5 lbs almost over night. It has slowed down but I would do these huge weight gain jumps and it also freaked me out. Dr. also said my weight gain is NBD and I'm fine.
Lesson I came to learn: If the Dr. is not worried I should not be. But it is painful and does suck.
ETA: Glad the appointment went well and all is normal
