Well I got the call this morning, and they are considering me a 3 hour glucose test failure
My readings weren't far off, and my 3rd hour reading was actually within the "Normal" range, but they said if you're out of the normal range on 2 out of 3 readings then they fail you.
It appears I was only outside of the "Normal" range by 2-7 points for my first 3 readings, and by the 3rd hour I was within the Normal range...I am so sad
They scheduled me for a 2 hour Gestational Diabetes class next week, so I guess I'll learn a lot more then and I think get my monitor at that point too.
Any other GD'ers have advice on what meals/types of foods they're finding they can tolerate well?
I'm sorry. That stinks since you were so close. Hopefully the class will help and also search pinterest for ideas. My bff went thru this and I know she was so sad at first but found it to be an easy transition. Her husband also ate what she did so I think that helped to not cheat.

Damn! I'm sorry.
If it makes you feel at all better, I'm already planning on getting my failure news in a few weeks, lol. PCOS w/IR plus being on PIO for 23 wks will almost certainly put me in this group.
Ugh, sorry Bonita. My friend got it and she was really upset at first (as would I be). However, by the end, she really had it under control and said that it was not nearly as bad as she thought it'd be. Hopefully you have the same experience. GL.

I think that is going to really be the key (if my H eats the same/similar things to what I eat) - I sent my H a text message to see if he might be interested in coming to the class with me next week because they said I can bring one guest. I'm hoping he'll be able to get out of work and come with me (the class is from 1-3pm!?)
My friend had it and just had her baby two weeks ago--she said it wasn't too bad once she got the hang of it. Pretty much avoiding sugar, juice, trying not to eat carbs for breakfast, etc.
Thankfully it's only for a few months and since your numbers were so borderline, hopefully it'll be easy for you to control.
I had it with DD2. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be once I got used to the plan. And it really kept my weight in check. DD2's blood sugar was low at birth but it went normal after a little formula.
I was high on one of the readings with DD, but close to the top of the normal range on the others so they had me follow the diet & keep an eye on my levels. I only had one high reading for the rest of pregnancy - after thanksgiving dinner . It was more difficult for me emotionally than in any other way. The diet is totally reasonable. And, since your numbers are low, diet may be the only thing you need to worry about (no insulin or rx, hopefully).
Dd was a totally normal size, totally healthy and fine, and everything was ok.

wait, progesterone supplements make you more prone to GD?
They are still studying the possible link from what I've read/seen. I don't know if it's only linked to the oil based version vs suppositories.
Were you on metformin too? I never heard that about PIO, but I stopped at 10 weeks. I was on met until 12 weeks and had read multiple places that staying on it during first tri helps lower your risk. I passed my GD but who knows if that had any affect.

Nope. I've been on it in years past for IF but I'm one of the 1% who have livers who can't tolerate it. My enzymes shoot way up and I would have to come off it every time we tried.
The person who first told me about the possible link was my nurse at my RE so I figure there might be some truth to the matter. I guess only time will tell for me.
I'm sorry, I go for the 3hr tomorrow morning and I'm positive I'll fail since I had it with my first pregnancy. Luckily I was able to control it with diet. My dr had me in a tizzy because GD babies are "usually large" and actually induced me at 38 weeks. Ds was only 6lbs 1oz".
Oh man, I'm sorry, that's a bummer! And you haven't hardly gained weight either, right? Obviously that doesn't matter, but for some reason I was thinking that faster than normal weight gain was a sign of GD.
I hope the class is helpful and is an easy transition for you!

I'm sorry
I go in for my 3 hour a week from tomorrow, and may join you as well. Hopefully you can control it with diet and exercise and not need to do insulin/etc.
I'm sorry. I've had it twice and while it's annoying to track everything, it's not completely horrible. The first time I had to go on metformin, but the second time was diet/exercise controlled.
Hopefully your class will be helpful. You might have a bit of a trial and error period of figuring what works for you as far as the ideal macronutrients and timing to manage your numbers, so don't get too discouraged if some of your initial readings are a bit out of range.
Sorry Bonita. I've only had one friend who had it, and though it wasn't easy, it did help her keep her weight in check, which is at least a silver lining. FX all goes well for you too.
Ditto pp, my friends who've had it definitely kept their weight gain in check! One of my friends didn't gain any weight after she was diagnosed, and was lower than her high school weight within a month or two of birth between the GD diet and breastfeeding.
I was sooooo upset when I failed. I felt like I had failed at pregnancy life. After a week I got the hang of things and it wasn't bad. My numbers weren't ever crazy. I could eat anything in moderation. Even sweets.
If I had carbs I had to eat veggies. Veggies always stabilized my numbers. In order to keep my fasting numbers within range I needed to eat a carb and protein before bed. The fasting number was the hardest for me. It took me time I figure out what to do to get those numbers down.
My typical breakfast was toast & an egg. Snack I would eat a piece of fruit with nuts. I ate lasagna for dinner but had a big salad & no garlic bread.

That's correct! I actually haven't gained ANY weight yet, and at my last appointment they told me I lost a pound. So the doctor was concerned that I may need to get a growth ultrasound done to make sure baby is growing fine...now with GD I'm guessing they're concerned that baby will be too large :-P
Nonetheless, I was hopeful weight gain was a sign of GD, but apparently it isn't
I'm slightly concerned that the GD diet may actually cause me to lose weight, but I'm hopeful I might get some answers at the class next week.
I'm hopeful the class is helpful, I'll find out for sure next Wednesday
