I signed up for sprint tri last Friday and the race was on Sunday.
I was excited to go because half of my team would be there participating!
Swim: I felt great! I started in the very front of the pack and was first for a short bit. I swam neck and neck with one girl up until the end and then was able to cross over the timing mat before her. I thought for sure I would be second or third out of the water but these two girls swam it in 9 something minutes according to the results, I was pissed!! My time was 12:20.
Bike: I felt AWESOME on my bike. I averaged 18 miles per hour, and actually passed some girl who looked very intimidating and very buff, I thought for sure she would catch me somewhere on the bike course, but she didn't end up passing me until the run...lame. I PRd on this course for the bike at 40:??.
Run: ohhhhhh the run. The run is my nemesis. I started running and quickly fell into a pace in which I could run forever instead of a fast pace that I could only keep up for a 5k. At that point I thought "oh well, I know I need to work on my run, just keep running!"
THis is a mostly flat run UNTIL you get to the ONE AND ONLY steep hill. I probably could have waddled up the hill but decided to walk, my legs were shot from the bike. Then I ran down the hill and ran for the rest of the course. My embarassing time for the run was 31:?? Not my best at all, in fact terrible!!
My overall time was 1:29.?? I PRd on the course by 7 minutes. The last time I did this race was in 2008! I'm like a fine wine, I only get better with age!!
I ended up 16th out of 55 in my age group,which I'm really quite proud of. If only I could have bumped up my run pace even slightly I would have placed higher in my age group.
It was a fun race!
Next weekend I have my aquathon! 1500 meter swim and a 10k. An event that I am good at and one that I completely suck at. It should be enventful!
