Um, hi there. I tried to make my own post on MM but ESF peer pressured me into coming here.
To start, I'm looking for recs for new mascara and bronzer. I used to live one (the original?) bare minerals mascara but I switched after the last couple of tubes got gunky way too fast. I'm using the green cover green now. I HATE the wand. I just want a normal non-awkward rubber applicator. And a normal mascara. Nothing fancy.
I'm currently using a Bobbi Brown bronzer, probably because I stole it from my mom at some point. It's fine, but I figure if I'm going to spend $40 it should be better. I was looking at the Milk Chocolate Soleil, since the reviews all say it doesn't give off that orange look. Anyone have opinions or want to steer me another direction? On a scale of 1 to 10, how often is my husband going to say "why the hell does your face smell like chocolate?"
And, since I'm here, I could really use some guidance on how to do eye shadow. I understand the basic concept (kinda), and I've looked at websites and tried to replicate it but my sections are never really defined and it looks like poop. Can somebody point me in the right direction of what I should be doing?
Have we talked about the Clinique palette? Black Honey Affair?
It looks pretty.I haven't found much in terms of reviews. And by much, I mean zero.
I saw this on the Sephora website and added it to my ever growing list of things to buy. I think the color combination is pretty unique compared to hat is out there. I want to see it in person before purchasing though.

Mascara: I like Essence. It's super cheap, waterproof and I like the application better the Covergirl.
hamster, I really like Maybelline Full N Soft mascara and I recently got some Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara (had to order off Amazon) that I like as well.
I like the Too Faced bronzer. I think it smells more like chocolate than the chocolate bar eyeshadow palette does but I feel like I can't smell it a few seconds after I apply it. I use the fluffy real techniques blush brush to apply it to give a sun-kissed look. I tried it as a contouring powder but I think it wasn't dark enough for me or I just didn't need it.

Mascara: good luck and find me when you find your HG!
Bronzer: I like the too faced. It smells heavenly but the smell dissipates quickly.
Eyeshadow: pick quality shadow, use good brushes, watch lots is tutorials on YouTube for technique.
Too Faced's chocolate stuff doesn't smell like chocolate once it's on your face. Or if it does, it's not noticeable enough that my husband has ever asked why I smell like brownies and trust me, he would.
Are you using primer under your shadow? And what kind of colors are you play with shadow wise? That might help me give advice.

I do use a primer. I typically just throw on a single nude color and move on, but I have lots of different colors just for the sake of having them. I typically prefer lighter vs darker though. I feel like my under eyes are so dark as it is, I don't want to make that area any darker!

You aren't going to get must definition at all with a nude color. It's kind of hard to tell you what to do if I'm not sure what your eyes look like or what look you're going for. I'd suggest searching for tightlining in order to open up your eyes some, to define them without darkening them. You're also going to want to look at tutorials that discuss working with the crease and outer v. You'll be able to get more definition by focusing on those areas. Even using one color can be effective if you know how to work those areas and blend.

You came!!!! Yay!!
This is how I do my eye makeup most of the time. I don't even have the right brushes and it is still fine.
You said on MM that palettes scared you but this formula is why palettes are so good. You can take any three colors and follow this basic framework and your eyes will look good.
Once you start practicing, it starts making sense and venturing out to try other techniques is less scary.

Someone recced the NYX bronzer to me and I've loved it since I picked it up. It's not orange and is just subtle enough for everyday but very buildable.

So H is enabling my makeup addiction. He texted me that Target has a coupon for $10 off a $35 beauty purchase or $5 off a $20 purchase (text BLUSH to Target at 827438). So, aside from the shampoo I actually needed, I came home with this. He also told me that he picked up some contract work and I can use the money to buy more makeup.

I find that using shadow that's too dark all over my lid really closes my eyes up. What works for me is to be sure that the inner 1/4 to 1/3 of my lid is lighter and then blend out to the darker colors, especially in the outer 1/3 and/or outer V like HBC said. Just blend like crazy.

I went down the Chocolate Bar tutorial rabbit hole last night. I never thought to use a lighter color to blend (rather than just a naked brush). Eureka!
I'm really really hoping my potential work trip actually pans out because if it does I am going to break out some CRAZY ass makeup in my free evenings.
Already planning this out and it's not even booked yet...and it's not till December.
Thursday FOTD: MUFE Olive Grey on kids with UD Busted in the crease, Bobbi Brown Telluride blush, Chanel Caprivante lipstick, and Armani Maestro foundation.

Anyone been to Sephora in Europe (specifically Spain)? In wondering if they stock the same brands as in the US.
I can get a lot of drugstore and really high end designer stuff here, but not brands like UD, Tarte, Too Faced etc. I'll be in Spain next month though and I'm hoping to stock up.

For my own selfish reasons I hope you get to go, too.
Perhaps I've been asleep on this particular shade in the UD Naked 2, but I'm loving YDK. It is such a pretty shimmery cool tone color.
Face is pretty much the same old routine. I used MAC Sketch and Swiss Chocolate in the crease. NARS Barbara on the lips.
Also, I'm slightly obsessed with Jaclyn Hill's new tutoiral with the Fall Smokey Eye with teal. I want to do that for my birthday something serious. So I'll be picking up the MAC pigment in blue brown and probably the mint glitter.
Eyes: UD primer (I have about a billion samples of this), NYX silver shadow (ipsy), stila dark grey shadow (non-sample), MUFE black liner (sephora birthday gift), Dior extase mascara (sephora freebie), Anastasia Lash Genius (non-sample)
Eyebrows: Anastasia dipbrow and clear gel (non-sample)
Face: LM tinted moisturizer (sephora points), LM primer (sephora points), YSL inked foundation (sample), YSL concealer (sample), Smashbox halo powder (sephora freebie), Tarte blush stick thingie (sephora points), Benefit Watts up highlight (sephora points)
Lips: Bite Rouge exclusive (sephora rouge gift), UD liner in Ozone (non-sample)

FOTD: A little boring today, tried another potential dupe for global fierceness. NYX matte cream in Monte Carlo is too red. Time to take it in to Sephora or Mac I guess.
This picture doesn't do the shadow justice at all. It's a shimmery peach under the browbone, green all over, and a plum in the crease and outer corner. This is the quad:
So do you guys remember how in the movie Castaway, at the end, you see Tom Hanks in a house and there's stuff everywhere and he looks freaked out and overwhelmed?
That is me, except instead of being on a deserted island, I had a sad little palette collection, and instead suddenly being reintroduced to modern society with no transition, I now have THREE new palettes that I acquired in a five day period.
Naked 3 is my Wilson. It stood by me for so long, and even with all my new lovelies, I miss it. And I haven't even applied all the new colors to my face.
Ok, I think part of my problem is that I need more brushes.
Are there any decent ones at target or drugstores?
If yo can still find this set at Target, buy it!!! I want to cuddle the powder brushes all day long. And I like the shadow brushes more than any others I have tried.
