So our living room is completely empty (thanks to moving from an apt to a house). So this weekend we bought a couch and chair (and now I just need tables, lamps and rugs, oh my!).
Anyhoo this is the couch, but we got it in a dark gray
WE are doing this chair in blue
I originally really wanted an orange chair, but the only ones I could find that I liked were too $$ so I think we are just going to pull in some orange with rugs/lamps/whatever.
I love this rug, but it is from Target and $800 (in the size I need). I don't think I can justify an $800 rug with a 3 year old running around.
Anyhoo, so now we just need accessories! Also my complaint for the day, furniture and housewares are too expensive. Humph
Love your choices! I have been trying to bring in orange since we moved in last year. So far it hasn't worked, except in cookware, but I am determined to bring it in somewhere.
Are you opposed to buying vintage/second hand furniture and accessories? Mixing old with new can really add warmth and interest, and can save you a lot of money.
When we moved we had very little furniture so we went with a combination of new (sofas and chairs), vintage/second hand (side tables, modular cabinets, more chairs, accessories), along with things that we have acquired through the years, and the mix of things has really made it feel like something collected over time that reflects our taste and our history.
I loved it when all we had was new furniture in here, but it didn't really feel warm and welcoming until we brought in some of the older pieces.

Not opposed at all! I think the other chair we want will be a wood frame chair (hopefully with an orange cushion). Like something like this (below), but hopefully vintage and hopefully not 1K plus like all the chairs I see. I have been scouring craigs list (but no luck so far!). Might have to hit up some stores. Sadly I think since a lot of the mid century modern stuff is really in, I haven't been able to find 2nd hand stuff that is that inexpensive.
DH really wants to build a coffee and side table. The room is small so I think we are going to use a skinny bench for a coffee table vs. a wider table. I know he wants to use reclaimed wood, so hopefully it will give it a warmer feel.
ETA: I do tend to like vintage/second hand pieces more for wood vs. upholstery pieces, just because I get paranoid about germs and bed bugs lol

I hear you on the bed bug thing. We have bought a couple of chairs that are upholstered, but more like dining chairs than easy chairs, so not as much padding. Plus, we bought them from a guy who has anything remotely questionable reupholstered.
Mid century stuff is in for sure, but we have found some really great buys. In CA we could find good stuff on CLfor really cheap, but here the only decent stuff on CL is from second hand/vintage stores and isn't a steal. Still not bad prices though...much better than new versions.
I had almost decided that we would need to build a coffee table from reclaimed wood (after searching for a table for more than a year), but on a whim I checked CL and found that my favorite mid century store had the perfect coffee table at the right price. It was not what I thought I wanted shape-wise, but it is perfect and I knew it the second that i saw the photo on CL. It was worth waiting for.
Now we need side tables.lol I prefer for them not to match the coffee table, and they don't necessarily need to match each other, so one would think that would make it a bit easier to figure out something. One would think....

Yeah, our craigs list is very much full of dealer stuff vs. individual stuff so it is somewhat frustrating. It seems expensive! I really just need to have more patience. Any good ideas for rugs?

No good ideas for rugs. We have 4 small dogs who forget all house training if there is something soft beneath their little feet, so we avoid rugs. lol

I looooove that couch. I want to go grey with my next couch. What kind of fabric is it?
How about an indoor/outdoor rug with orange? I have one in my t.v. room and love it -- it holds up great to spills and kids in general. And they're usually under $200 for 8 x 10.

Are your chairs from Room & Board? I have 2 just like that from R&B. One in pale blue velvet and one in a burnt orange/brownish velvet. I've had them 4-5yrs and aside from where my jerk cat scratched they look good as new.

West Elm! We actually only got one, the room is pretty small, so i think I need to get an arm chair type chair for the other one. But I wanted to see how this one looked before deciding on another chair. It is called the book nook chair, and is a bit smaller than their other ones it seems. I am hopinh it works! I get nervous ordering without really seeing in person (its an online only chair apparently, and west elm stores are small regardless).
