That sucks. Are your school taxes combined with property taxes or separate? Ours are combined so I have never taken the time to see how much they were as an individual line item.
Where I used to live, school taxes were also tacked onto utility payments and your paycheck. I was just looking at my 2010 W-2 and they were almost $1500 that I paid directly from my paycheck (or about 50% of what I paid in state tax). Utility bills probably accounted for another $300/year or so, and my last car registration 2/3 of the $300 registration was for school tax.
So I paid roughly $2000/year for school tax on top of property taxes.

Thank you hamster. Our school taxes are 7800.0 a year and our property taxes are just a little under that...like 6500.00 or so. Thats on a house assessed at 403K

Interesting that school taxes are separated out specifically per resident. Does the money go just to one specific school, school district or to the state?
Here the school boards (and individual schools) are funded by the province through the general pool of provincial taxes.
Back to OP, that does sound like an annoying hike in your budget over a short time period.
