We really only get rain in the winter. Last winter we had like zero rainy days (drought sucks). And the winter before that I was not even remotely committed enough to run outdoors in the rain.
So- if it's raining, what do you wear? Do you get blisters or chafing from wet clothes and wet socks ? If you run with a phone, how do you protect it?

While it rains a lot in the winter in Seattle, it generally isn't a heavy rain. I don't think I've ever gotten blisters or chafing, but on longer runs I always put on body glide whether or not its raining.
I just wear what I would normally wear clothing wise, and if it is raining hard I'll add a light running jacket and a visor to keep the rain out of my eyes.

I wear whatever I normally would for the temperature. I will sometimes wear a jacket that will keep me somewhat dry and it's a little cold out. Body Glide everywhere that could possibly rub. Vaseline on my feet. Hat or visor to keep the rain out of my eyes. And I learned the hard way not to wear my wedding rings if it's cold and rainy. My hands seem to swell up a bit when it's cold and damp.
My feet are my primary blister spot in the rain; I need to use a lot more glide (especially on my toes). I haven't really had to, but if I had a long run that I absolutely had to do in the rain (10+ miles) I would seriously consider a pair of 5+ mile loops with a sock and shoe change halfway through. Most of the rest of my clothes are really rigorously tested by sweat in the summer, so chafing isn't a big deal.
The other must-have for rain-running is a hat or visor with a brim to keep it out of your face. I carry my iPod shuffle in the rain because it's not that expensive to replace if the worst happens. I don't usually run with a phone anyway, but when it's going to be wet when I'm out on my bike I put it in a ziploc bag before putting it in my jersey pocket.
I live in England, it rains a LOT here. I have a waterproof. I protect my phone by wearing it under my waterproof.
The reason I asked this now is because I'm gearing up for a trip to the uk which will include some long runs. I hope it rains here in CA this winter, but I know it'll be raining during uk this trip lol!
I don't wear anything special when it's raining unless it's below 40 (growing up in Portland, that unfortunately happened a fair amount in the winter), in which case I wear a waterproof shell and tights.
The year I ran CIM in a monsoon, I wore a trash bag for 22 miles. Not recommended.
For rainy days, I wear a hat to keep water out of my face and I wear smartwool socks because they dry really fast and I never get blisters in them. Other than that, nothing special. I don't ever run with a phone, so no worries there.

I loooooove running in the rain. I just put Body Glide in all the places and wear a hat to keep the water out of my eyes. I also put my phone in a ziploc bag in my spibelt. Otherwise, business as usual, and most of the time, a little faster than when it isn't raining
I dress for the temperature and wear a baseball hat to keep the rain out of my face. I would definitely add body glide everywhere. I just learned recently soaking wet clothes for 17 miles = chafing chafing chafing!

I wear my regular clothes, but I add a hat to keep the rain out of my face. Running in the rain is really not bad, if it's a warm rain. I don't run in the rain if it's below 40 degrees. That's just painful.
I usually don't take my phone if it's raining. If I really feel like I need to have it, which has only happened once or twice, I put it in a ziplock bag and/or wrap it in plastic wrap.

I enjoy a light rain! The only thing I do differently is to wear a hat, like someone else mentioned. I had an unlucky streak where it rained for every race (including my first 10k, 1/2, and full), so I was glad that I had trained in bad weather.

I have a Lifeproof case for my phone. The poor phone wouldn't have survived all of the crap I put it through without the case. A Ziploc bag works and is cheap.
Ha! Perfect timing because I just ran 8 miles in the rain today! I didn't do anything different though, but I definitely wore my visor. I don't run with my phone so I have zero advice there. Next time I'll probably use body glide, but other than that it was fine.
Just a hat usually. I usually don't even need to worry about body glide unless I'm going a long distance. I usually try to plan my runs so I'm not doing crazy long mileage in the rain.
I agree with WNW running in the rain below 40 is shitty and not something I do on the regular.

I ran my first half marathon in 42 degrees and pouring rain. AND my training group meets rain or shine, so I have been through everything from sleet to a severe thunderstorm (which I wouldn't recommend, obviously). I actually like running in light rain.
The hat is a must. It really does wonders for keeping the rain out of your eyes.
On really rainy days, I use Aquaphor liberally between my toes and all over my feet. And some around my bra line. It's thicker than Body Glide.
And if it's pouring, don't try to avoid the puddles. I watched a guy trip trying to swerve around one. You'll dry.
Although, I will say this- try to hang onto an older pair of shoes specifically for the really bad days. I am completely convinced that I damaged a pair of shoes after only 20 miles. They were completely waterlogged and even though I dried them with newspaper, the side of one wrinkled and sort of buckled, causing them to rub on my ankle so badly that I couldn't wear them.
A hat or visor with a brim (and I haaaaate wearing hats when I run, but it's totally crucial for keeping water out of your eyes), my usual wicking stuff, and LOTS of bodyglide/aquaphor/whatever. If you're pretty sure your feet are going to get soaked, you can try putting your feet in plastic baggies after you put your socks on but before you put your shoes on but I don't know that I'd try that on a long run. Well, I would...but I'm not super prone to blisters.

I didn't think I would like running in the rain but I did over the weekend and it wasn't just a drizzle it was pouring at points. I think I moved faster since I wanted to get done and honestly I didn't mind it. I didn't do anything different. I have an armband for my phone that has a plastic touch screen and it seemed to work out okay. It wasn't wet and my yer-buds are awesome they didn't move. I didn't put body glide or anything on but I guess I might next time to see if it makes a difference esp on my feet.
I have avoided running in the rain because I have a fear that it will somehow ruin the integrity of the shoes (being soaked + pavement pounding = structural damage?), and I don't want to mess them up. Is this fear unfounded? Do you do anything special to dry them out afterwards?
