Some other places: Smith Playground Philadelphia Zoo The Play Cafe (Bryn Mawr) Lulu's Casita (Ardmore) Longwood Gardens Franklin Institute
Eta: also, depending on when you go, lots of local township parks do a kid-friendly movie on Friday/Saturday nights. If you want to share or PM the dates, I can look some up for you.
Is the Please Touch Museum good for an almost-2.5 year old? We'll be spending a lot of time in Philly for his upcoming surgery, and I'd like to do some fun things in between appointments!

I think the Franklin Institute is geared toward elementary school-aged kids. But Please Touch Museum is fantastic. Smith Playground is free. The central location of the Free Library has a great kids' section in the basement.

we're doing a weekend in Philly, too. So far we're planning to visit the Please Touch museum and do some general sight seeing, but the Smith Playground sounds pretty awesome. We'll have to check that out.

Former Philly resident chiming in ... Ditto to ALL of the above ! Depending on when you're there I'll add the Devon Horse Show and Linvilla Orchards for apple picking and hayrides
I like the Linvilla suggestion, pinkdutchtulips! We go every fall. Same with the horse show in the spring, though I feel like that's an event that only immediate locals and equestrians get excited about. I invited my friend from Wynnewood to go with us this past spring, and she was like, "Um, a horse show?" lol.
Please Touch is probably my girls' favorite local spot. They also really enjoy Smith Playground and the Academy of Natural Sciences. And of course they love the zoo and aquarium, but I think those can be skipped if you have them at home, or at least that's how I feel when choosing what to do when we travel with our kids. We've yet to do the Franklin Institute but I remember loving it as a kid.
Lulu's and Play Café are indoor play spaces that would be good if you want something quick and close by to do with the kids; Play Café is right in Bryn Mawr but I prefer the space at Lulu's. Freedom Playground is also great and close by. But I think the city spots would be more worth your while.

Linvilla was a yearly destination for the preschool attached to my dad's church in Marple Twnshp. In fact friends of mine STILL take their kids there yearly !

We go several times a year. DD loves all the animals and doing the pick-your-own fruit. It's a great place to kill some time. We only live about 20 minutes away, so it's an easy spot to visit!
