We have a condo intranet with a message board. It's not as fun as littleduck's reply all, but it sure is entertaining. I'm waiting until tonight to see all the replies when people get home. People have too much time on their hands, apparently.
Back story: We had a lobby remodel that was a huge political battle in our building around January. I think it looks terrible and people thought the HOA wasted a bunch of money on some high end decorator.
Someone posted this 2 days ago: S- "I am at risk of being shout down, but I still do not get the lobby remodel. I have tried for months to understand aesthetics, but the gaps in the wallpaper are still there. I do not know how sea grass green wall paper fits in with anything going on with community floors or our hallways. It seemed paint, without wallpaper and mirrors was fine before. Yes, I am bringing up an old subject, but I still don't get it. I tried my best to like it."
Replies today: M- "I normally stay quiet on here, but I can't this time. With all of the terrible things going on in this world right now (terrorism, ebola, cancer, plane crashes, etc.), it's amazing someone would even have the nerve to complain about something so trivial as the color of wallpaper. We should all feel blessed to even live in such a beautiful glass high rise condo and quit stressing out about such materialistic things that simply do NOT matter at all...like wallpaper."
(OMG, People! EBOLA? Seriously? Anyway..)
A- "S: I read your email regarding the lobby remodel - - and I agree 100%. We have one of the best complex's in the country. We have an amazing staff, friendly neighbors and truly a great building - - but the lobby design is an absolute joke!! I've said this in previous emails - - go to any 1st class property and you'll see well appointed design elements, warm features and a welcoming environment. Heck - - we don't even have a concierge located on the first floor that welcomes and directs guests - - which is another matter entirely!! Hopefully something can be done about this"
S- "Thanks A. I'm sorry to have stirred up the pot again. I am very, very grateful to live in the building. Life could be worse. I could be sleeping on a sidewalk grate in front of the Social Security Administration building in the dead of winter. Same neighborhood; different living conditions. It's funny that my comment would be construed as a "complaint" because I just texted my son last week that if I ever "complained" about living here, he is free to hit me upside the head. The community is beautiful. The lobby re-do strikes me as pretty, I like the green color. It reminds me of a fancy condo lobby in So Florida. Then I get to the elevator bank, community floors and I'm reminded oh yeah, I'm in colorado. All I know from personal experience is that it is REALLY hard to change out wallpaper. Paint is cheaper and easier to maintain and remodel. It just seemed like an expensive project to fix something that wasn't really broken in the first place. I didn't mean it as a problem with the entire building, it was just an observation. But I'm only one person and not a professional design person. I like the painting too, in fact helped the artist hang it, and saved one panel from falling to the floor (it was very heavy!) It would be nice is there was a small sign downstairs to explain how the kiosk works. It took me about a month to figure out what those things were for. I wouldn't hold my breath expecting any changes in the foreseeable future. Too much $$ was spent on the remodel."
