Was it worth it? I have a first round of baby stuff (duplicates) I want to get rid of, plus a bunch of other stuff. I'm not really doing anything in a couple weekends and I think I'll hold it then. I figure the girls can play around in the driveway and sell apple cider and cookies. Any tips or cautionary tales?

I LOVE having garage sales, lol. Just make sure your H is going to be home or you have a friend or two helping you hold down the fort so you can escape for breaks occasionally. No matter what price you put on things, people will try to haggle with you, so just make sure you are prepared to part with things for less than what you may think they are worth if you really want to get rid of them.
The girls will love it. I used to love to "help" my mom with garage sales when I was a kid.
We just had one a few weeks ago. We made about $500 in one and a half days. Make sure your stuff isn't priced to high (most people go to get great deals. If they're not getting that, they won't buy) and be prepared to haggle and for people to offer you next to nothing for things. And people buy the craziest shit too.
lol. My mom is a garage sale junkie. She taught me all he knows. Hahah. Oh an yes, it was totally worth it.
You'll get more money for the big items on Craigslist or FB pages, but it's hard to sell the little stuff that way.
Join as many local yard sale groups as possible and list there, put an ad on Craigslist (including some pictures of the good stuff!).
Put your big, nice stuff closer to the road so people see it when they drive by.
Invite friends to join you in getting rid of crap! More stuff sitting around attracts people to stop. It's also nice to advertise a "Multi-Family Garage Sale!" Also, having help with set-up/tear down is nice, as is the company, and the extra set of eyes so you can watch/help the kids, go to the bathroom, etc.

When we have garage sales I just put out a jar with a sign that says pay what you want or just take it. Last time I made $87! And I didn't have to sit there all day, so it was a win.
I sell anything valuable on Craigslist, so the random stuff we want to get rid of would just get donated if I didn't have my half-assed garage sale.

We have one twice a year for our subdivision garage sale. It has always been worth it to us. We make between $400-600 each time. I guess, for some people, that may not be worth it, but seeing as how we've made over almost 2K total with 4 garages, I think so. These are one-day sales.
Group like items as much as possible and put a sign out with their price. Like "Tops $2/each." Pricing individual items is a PITA. Save all signs from this sale in case you decide to do another one and then you don't have to re-make anything and can remember what you priced them.
I advertise on Craigslist (in addition to our subdivision advertising in the paper) and I have gotten people that way.
