At my appointment with my new OBGYN she said they're listing me as chronic hypertensive, and they won't let me go past 39 weeks. I'm sad. I feel like I'm failing him before he's even here. Logically, I know this isn't my fault, but tell that to my hormones.
Have you had white coat syndrome at all in the past? I have it and have had to do a lot of explaining/do a bit of meditating and visualization before and while getting my BP checked. If I wasn't already aware of it I would have the red flag on me as well - my BP is 140/90 if I am not relaxed and doing breathing exercises at the doc office.
We usually check it once at the beginning of the appointment and then again later. First is usually around 140/90, second is 120/70.
I have chronic hypertension as well. Has your doc suggested you take a baby aspirin daily? My MDM had me start doing that at 12 weeks, because it reduces risk of preeclampsia. I was also told that I'll probably deliver between 37 and 39 weeks.
I was on meds for 3 years before the pregnancy (baby-safe meds), but am not on them now, since baby lowers BP early in pregnancy. They will probably start me on meds again soon.
Try not to stress (it only makes BP worse!). Trust that your doc has seen this before, and will take good care of you and baby.

Honestly, before the baby, I was always "prehypertension". But yes I do have white coat syndrome, as well. My family has a history of blood pressure and white coat issues.heh.
I have it too. I have had high BP for years and am on a pregnancy-safe med for it. My doctor has not mentioned a delivery time frame yet, but I assume it will be early. They are sending me to MFM at 20 weeks for a more detailed ultrasound and consult, I think.
I was on BP medicine for years prior to getting pregnant, it's something that runs in my family and I have had it for a long time now. I was pretty concerned about how pregnancy would affect it, but I've been on a baby-safe medication my whole pregnancy and my blood pressure has actually decreased from what it was prior to pregnancy.
I check it pretty much every day and it's been staying around 115/60 thankfully, it's always higher in the dr's office though...It hasn't been high enough for them to worry though, and they haven't mentioned me going early yet so I'm not sure what will happen. Do you check yours outside of the Dr's office?
Sorry that you're dealing with this BP can be frustrating, which probably doesn't make it any better...ha ha
They've been monitoring me for pre-eclampsia since the beginning though, I had to do a 24 hr. urine when I was like 9 weeks I think as a "baseline" :-P
I have what I considered prehypertension as well, but they are treating it as chronic hypertension. Typical bp for me is 130/80. It actually ranges from mid 110s to mid 140s over 65ish to 90. I check at the pharmacy when I grocery shop too and for me it's consistent (not white coat syndrome).
I have been on baby aspirin, they had me do a baseline 24h urine test to get protein levels early on, I have to check my urine for protein with little test strips at every appointment, I have more frequent appointments, I have done growth ultrasounds every 4 weeks since 20 weeks, and they've told me I am likely to deliver early. BUT, their standard chronic hypertension protocol is to OFFER induction at 40w.
So if it really bothers you to think of induction at 39w, you could ask for a second opinion.
ETA I am actually now questioning - they may say they offer induction at 39. I know they don't mandate it if things are going well. I can check my sheet when I get home. Also, I don't have additional appointments, I have additional NSTs.
