I went off caffeine about 6 years ago and had so much more energy once I got past withdrawal. I think I was just sleeping more deeply, so I was more energetic during the day. It also affected me more when I wasn't drinking it often, so when I needed it before a big day, it really gave me a boost (I probably had caffeine once a week or less). I started drinking diet coke again a couple of months ago, but I'm working on giving it up, since I don't need anything else contributing to my tiredness!
When I was in college, I had a somewhat off-the-beam friend who called me the butterfly. I asked him about it once, and he responded, "Because nobody ever suspects the butterfly."

When we were in China and Diet Pepsi became available, I started drinking 2 cans of soda a day. I ended up addicted to it and would have headaches if I went to long without drinking any. I still drink it sometimes, but have to be really careful not to get to that point again. I just didn't like how I felt when I "needed" it.
I judge people a little bit who can't handle strong flavors. Like, if someone says that coffee, chocolate, or certain varieties of alcohol are too strong for them, I think, "Ha! Wimp!" in my head. And then I judge myself for judging them for something so dumb.
I once had someone tell me they don't trust people who don't like coffee.I am conflicted because one of my BFF's doesn't like coffee.
I do question those that say they don't drink any caffeine. HOW.
I wish I could have caffeine, but I can't handle it. It makes me feel shaky and actually tired. I can tell if I've accidentally had regular coffee bc I feel like crap afterwards. I drink decaf though, bc I miss it.

I am also really sensitive to it. I can have a cup in the morning, but if I have a coke with lunch I'm shaky in the afternoon.

Yeah, I hated that too. I used to travel abroad for 10 days out of every month for work, and I often didn't have access to caffeine that I like. I'd have to either deal with headaches and bitchiness all day, or drink something I hated (eg coffee - I've never liked the taste and it upsets my stomach). I hated feeling chained to it like that.
I guess this is a confession, but I don't care about being addicted to caffeine, lol.
I should, but I just don't care. I tell myself, at least it's not cocaine.
There's no way I could be a runner without caffeine though.
I think it's fine if you have a normal stable life where you're guaranteed your caffeine of choice every day. It just becomes a PIA when you travel a lot or whatever and you have to schedule things around making sure you get caffeinated. Then it's like, really? On top of all this other shit I have to do, I have to hunt down caffeine so I'm not bitchy all day?? It was a burden! Lol.
ETA: But it was really the energy thing that made me give it up. For me it was a short term gain, long term loss, as they say on Cars.
I am addicted to caffeine as well. MH and I drank an embarrassing amount of Mountain Dew this week. Four 12 packs.
My UO is that sweet and salty things are gross.
24 a week each?! Holy shit balls. Do you glow fluorescent green when you turn off the lights? Does your blood look like ectoplasm? I'm in aw.
I used to drink a lot of Dr. Pepper in college but apparently I was in the minor leagues.
Yeah... It's really bad. I mean, it has been worse before. I used to drink 3 liters daily. I kept a 2 liter next to my bed at night. It's slowly creeping back up there. I should do something about that.

Gah! We need a intervention here. I'm really good at shaming people if you need a sponsor. :-p

I've weaned myself off coffee over the past two weeks. There have been a lot of headaches. I've been substituting tea, which doesn't do shit (not even the super strong Irish stuff we keep at work). Trying to work my way down to nothing.
I know you can have a certain amount when pregnant, but my intake was WAY over that, and I was still getting headaches, so that's why I'm trying to cut it altogether.
In April/May, I plan to drink all the things! I've already been promised champagne in the hospital by several friends.
