I got an unexpected call from HR this morning at home. Apparently I'm being laid off as soon as my leave is over. At least I have several months to find a new job? But now instead of relaxing and getting to know A on my leave I'll be job hunting. I didn't even realize I could be laid off while on FMLA but evidently they can still eliminate me, sigh. I sent my resume out for about 10 jobs today. I have no idea how I'll manage interviewing with a newborn but I guess we'll figure it out soon.
Is that legal? I guess as long as it's after your leave? Are they giving you any severance? Unemployment? I'm so sorry! I hope you find something soon with a manageable commute. Wtf! I've been meaning to text you!

I'm really sorry. That sounds a bit fishy on their part but I guess going back and getting hit with the news would be worse. I think you should give yourself a certain amount of time where you don't job hunt on your leave. 2 weeks, 4, 6...whatever you are comfortable with. You can't get that time back and in the long run an extra few weeks of not having a job won't matter. I understand the stress of the timing though. DH was laid off when H was 2 weeks old. Everything worked out and it will for you too. Plus, you will get a better boss than jerky mcjerkerson.
What? I'm so sorry. This doesn't sound right or fair. I know nothing about anything really but my H has mentioned a few times that your company has been laying off big time. Is this related, I guess? Dude, this is not okay. You should not have to be spending your leave worrying about this. You are such a great person and I am so sad for you. Are they at least being fair with a severance package? Big hugs.

Apparently it's legal, especially since it's part of a larger group of lay offs. Though it hardly matters since they have plenty of well paid lawyers and I have none.
I won't find out about possible severance until after my leave so can't plan that. At least I'm not without a job as of tomorrow like one of my coworkers?

That's a good point. I had to do something today, though, to make myself feel better. I'm not sure what I'll do if another company wants to interview me. Or wants me to start ASAP after interviewing. Sorry your family went through this too, but I'm glad to hear it all worked out. For now I'm hopeful.

I am sorry to hear that. I know of someone else who was laid off right after leave and that sucks! Hopefully this is an opportunity to find something better!
That sounds fishy. Are other workers being laid off, do you know?
Yeah, including the other person on my team my jerky boss didn't like. It probably has more to do with jerky boss giving me a bad review than me being on leave, but can't do anything about either situation.
I am so sorry. That is horrible news to get hit with.
Everyone I know who has gotten laid off recently has ended up in a far better position. I'm sending all the vibes to you for the same. And no jerky bosses in your future!

I'm sorry this is happening to you right now. I hope you can still enjoy your time with A once the initial shock wears off and that great opportunities come your way.
