He's a monster of a man. About 6'6", I don't know, probably 250lbs.
Anyways. I live about a mile from Wright Patt AF base where the AF marathon takes place. This guy does CF, has never run long distances in his life. In fact, our coach has discouraged him from running anything longer than sprints. This week, someone posted on FB "I'm not going to use my running entry, who wants it?" Huge dude says "sure, why not, I'll run a marathon." So that's what he's doing right now. With no training. Will let you know how this goes.
That sounds crazy to me because of All. The. Time. I spend training for a marathon, but I do know a lot of people that manage to finish on very marginal training. I believe this race is also walker-friendly with the finish open longer than 6 hours, so if he's willing to walk & persevere he might make it. Will be interesting to see how it turns out for him...
I just asked on our gym members FB group. One girl is there at the finish line. Apparently the 3:30 people just finished. So it'll probably be awhile longer before we see him.

Agreed. It's going to take him a long time, and he's going to be hating life. If he puts his mind to it, I bet he could at least finish though. Let us know how it goes!
I don't know, there are a lot of things you can do to build your endurance. I'm not surprised he had the fitness to finish, I just think his body (which is not use to the impact), is likely hurting about 1,000x more than those who trained, and he's lucky he didn't hurt himself.
