One time I refilled DS's epipen RX and the co-pay went from $25 to no joke...$565.
So I called our Dr and asked if expired epi-pens would still work and she said yes so I could wait for our new insurance to kick in a few months later. And the co-pay went back down to $25.
I don't get it. I mean I do. But I don't. This shit is crazy.

That's weird. I didn't have to pay anything for my epipen
Uhhh, well it's (highly) likely we have different insurance plans.
I'm so glad that we were able to negotiate the girls' insurance so it could remain on the poor-people coverage. They have better coverage than DH and I do. It even pays for Kidlet's Goodnights and Miralax (well, it would if I didn't buy Miralax at Costco and start using the really cool Good Night underwear with replaceable liners a couple weeks ago. Convenient and much less expensive so I'll let the state keep its money for other kids that need it more.)

I was paying $38.99 a month for a prescription when I had a normal insurance plan. I am on a short-term plan with no prescription coverage right now and target charged me $53 for three months of the same thing.

No. Sorry that's. Not what I mean. I wasn't clear. I didn't get it free through insurance. The pharmacy (cvs) said that all epi pens were $0. I thought it had something to do with Obamacare.
I think the pharmacist at your CVS is skimming off the top...and I don't mean money
There is no way in HELL that epi-pens are $0. No. Way.
Every time I pick up my thyroid meds I see my medication on the $4/30 day generics list, but I'm always charged like $7. No one can seem to explain it and I got sick of asking about it.

I hate insurance. I keep getting bills for DS's speech therapy for deductibles but we have no deductible on our plan. The insurance acknowledged this yet still is rejecting the claim from the therapist. Ugh.
My CVS told me to google epi pen coupon. It pays up to $100 of your copay for three refills. My DDs epi pen I usually pay $40ish copay for 3. This time they were free. The coupon I printed off is good until Dec 2014, so I will prob refill the script in Dec even if we haven't had to use the pens just for extras.

I got mine for free with the coupon on their website

My insurance has refused to take coupons/discount cards if a medication wasn't on their "preferred list". CVS told me "Hmm, this is costing you $140 MORE when I enter your insurance!" Thanks.
my moms insurance is through her work, mail order only, 3 months at a time, 45 bucks a pop for her seizure meds. Kroger had the same prescription for $9 for a 3 month supply, no insurance. She goes there and says she has no insurance. My sons albueterol is $10 copay, if I say I don't have ins. its $3.
My son is on a anti seizure medicine that in pill form is $5. He started taking it when he was 6 months old and therefore could not take a pill so he needs a compounded version which insurance doesn't cover because it is considered "not necessary." So we have to pay it OOP. It's over $50 a month all because he needs the liquid version.

My H's epipens went up in price drastically as well. And we paid cash for the second box (he likes to keep one at work, one at home, and one to be a traveller and they come in boxes of two). It was like a milliontyeleven dollars. Gah.

I know - we have to do the same (one at school, one at afterschool care, one at home.). The coupon that jlt posted is awesome! I wish I had it a month ago, lol.

If you have a PPO/HMO plan there are manufacturers coupons that provide $0 copay for epipens. If you have other insurance or a HDHP then the coupon will lower the copay - but not take it to $0. I paid ~ $200 for 4 epi pens last month WITH the coupon.

Talk to the billing people at your therapy place. Our insurance company was rejecting every claim for speech therapy, but once we talked to the billing person, the recoded everything, resubmitted, and everything was covered.
