ESPN promoted the fact that Simmons went after Goodell...and then suspends him 48 hours later. You know what ESPN effectively did? They got people to start talking about this, and stop talking about domestic violence issues. Deflection, FTW.
ETA - also, remember that Stephen Smith got handed a 1 weeks suspension for saying women need to stop provoking men. Simmons goes after the NFL and says Goodell is lying, and he gets 3 weeks.

Mmmmhmmm.
They promoted it?? Really?
They sure did.
In more fun news, ESPN deleted a post from their own ombudsman yesterday which praised Bill Simmons. Thanks to the magic of the Internets, and cache and screen capture, they put it back up on the ombudsman page, but not on the main page where it was.
I rarely boycott anything but I'm boycotting espn for the next three weeks. Fuckers. And I watch and read a lot of espn.
Someone on Twitter suggested he refused to apologize which is why he got three weeks instead of less. Like how that assclown Stephen A. Smith got one week for his idiocy.

This is really bizarre, he's not the only ESPNer to criticize Goodell, and they've generally been critical of the NFL through the whole thing. I don't know what to make of it, but it feels like something else is going on.

I don't like or dislike Bill Simmons. He's better than Rick Reilly or Stephen A Smith and Dan leBatard. Three weeks is way too much, especially when they set the precedent by only suspending SAS one week. I've been watching and listening to ESPN less and less. I used to listen to Mike and Mike every day, until it because 50% commercials. This move is obviously covering their asses so they don't make the NFL mad and lose out on the ability to report on them (with video, etc). I wish there was a good sports alternative to ESPN.
