I think it's good that he's taking some blame, but this statement worries me...
"Overnight I went from being a small-town police chief to being part of a conversation about racism, equality and the role of policing in that conversation. As chief of police, I want to be part of that conversation. I also want to be part of the solution," he said.
It's as if he had NO idea that racism existed before his officer gunned down Michael Brown... therefore if he was the leader of the police force and the officer who killed Brown had this same mindset, IMO he is 100% guilty of holding racist ideals b/c he didn't examine the role of racism in the community and negligent of his own racist (conscious or subconscious) reasoning for killing a teen. If the officer is let off b/c he didn't "realize" he was racist, that is totally wrong IMO and will hurt racial tension more than anything. If you can claim, "I didn't know it was racist to profile black kids." and get away with murder, I will be pissed.
