I had no idea what these things were until I saw the display in HEB (which only comes in second to Wegmans as the best supermarket of all time). Texas, you are weird.

There are some local kids who came up with "mumz 4 kidz" where they're challenging their friends instead of doing mums this year to donate the money instead to buy groceries for Thanksgiving.
But really, I'm mystified. Do you make your own? Is it only if you win? If you're nominated? So strange, but from a crazy pageant state I can't say that I'm surprised.
I feel like we have this same conversation every year.
"What's a mum?! Isnt that a plant?" "Texans are weird." "Wow! Ive never heard of that before!" "What's the point?" "Back in my day, we just had corsages and boutinierres." "Texans are a breed of their own."
My brother used to live in the Woodlands. We visited in October one year and I took pictures at the grocery store around the corner from his house of the mums on sale and posted it to Facebook because I knew all my friends would be all wtf is that? The responses were hilarious.

Mums have always made me laugh. I loved the giant aisle in the craft store with mum supplies. The popular kids always had real flowers. My friends (drama geeks) were never into it.
