I'm the Best Man for my BFF's wedding in September, and the money situation for the GMs is all very different.
Two of us are doing just fine.
One is unemployed, his parents are f***ing loaded (we are talking "own what used to be a castle in coastal France" loaded) but they have finally gotten tired of funding his manchild lifestyle. So he is pissing and moaning about every dollar we spend, especially since he is paying to fly from London to Atlanta.
One is ... well, I'm not sure, but he doesn't want to spend much money either. He's probably less broke than the unemployed manchild.
So WWYD in this situation? I've already tried to find stuff to do for the b-party that's pretty cheap. To go cheaper in any meaningful way we would have to cut the strippers out of the b-party. Should the two of us who are doing okay split that part of the cost?
ETA: I took husky's advice and asked the other GM who's doing okay to split the stripper costs, which he's okay with. Thanks!
1. I love the phrase manchild. I may have to steal that.
2. As long as you and other GM are ok with funding most of it and the things that require money are important (like strippers), I don't see a problem. If the other two can't help momentarily can they do other things, like researching strippers, places to eat, things to do or running errands the day of?

I laughed at meaningful and strippers in the same sentence.
I've never understood why bachelor or bachelorette parties had to be so elaborate. Can't you all go have dinner/beers at a bar and head to the strip club?

I agree with this. Are you trying to pay the groom back for the bach party he gave you?

Partly yes, but that wasn't terribly elaborate either. We're driving up to his family's lake house ($10/pp in gas + $30-50/pp for food), going tubing ($10/pp) or shooting ($50/pp), then either coming back to atlanta and going to dinner+strip club (??/pp) or having dancers trek out to the lake house ($100-$200/pp). Ofc getting real attention at a strip club is the expensive part...

If you and the other financially responsible guy are okay with footing the extra cash, I would do whatever you are comfortable with, and definitely use the other two GMs to do any legwork. If enough guys are going to a strip club, and can contribute, it seems to me that the groom should get enough "attention," and you and the other guy could save money. But, I don't know much about strip clubs, I've only been to a divey one in Portland.
