We were walking at a park this afternoon and there was a dad with a 3-year-old girl in a stroller. He stopped to look at a fire pit that was still smoldering (no flames, but hot ash), but must have forgotten to put the brake on his stroller, because it started rolling towards the pit and tipped over, spilling the little girl into the hot ash.
She started screaming and the dad pulled her out. We rushed over and thankfully had some water bottles that we were able to dump on her scorched hair and skin. She seemed to be more scared than anything, and the poor dad was absolutely beside himself with guilt for letting it happen.
Both DH and I keep thinking about her and hoping that she's okay. So terrifying.
This makes me feel like maybe I'm not actually neurotic for always strapping C into his stroller. I hope that little girl is going to be okay -- that's so scary!
zarapipe, you could tell that he was absolutely wrecked about the whole thing. I can't even imagine how awful it would have been had there actually been a fire in the pit and not just the remains of one.
Also, it's a silly PSA, but always use the brake on your stroller. I am guilty of not always doing it, but this was a definite reminder of how important that can be.
