So I'm trying to figure out if I am paying too much for childcare help right now. We have a crazy schedule with my dd being in nursery school, daycare and with family. She goes three days a week to nursery school but transportation is difficult. Right now her daycare lady's assistant is watching her for 45 minutes two mornings a week and providing transportation to/from daycare. This is really convenient because she lives next door to the daycare and the nursery school is less than 1/2 mile from her house. We made this arrangement at the last minute and I agreed to $45/week as it was pretty much the only option. It seems like too much to me but it's such a random arrangement its hard to price. The fees for the nursery school are $191/mo which is almost what we're paying this woman for much less time. I would love to renegotiate but it's such a convenient set up and I don't want to burn bridges since she is a back up for daycare. Am I stuck?!
You're paying for the convenience so even if it's "too much", it's working and I would let it be. By trying to renegotiate you do run the risk of insulting her or burning bridges and then what will you do for transportation?

You're totally right, I do have a back up but it's not nearly as convenient. I'm thinking in the long run it makes more sense to suck it up than rock the boat. Thanks!
So it's $30/hour? That is a lot to pay for child care. However, based on how you have described it, but if you can deal with the cost, I would just let it be, personally.

You're stuck. The time to negotiate was when it first came up. Honestly, I don't think it's unreasonable. Generally, the shorter amount of time and the fewer the number of kids the more you will pay per hour.
