I don't know what's going on. I don't normally have a hard time falling asleep. Lately, I am just always so tired but it has taken me forever to fall asleep this last week or so. I try to go to bed early, but it's not like I'm not tired. I go to bed early because I can barely keep my eyes open, but then I just lay there for upwards of an hour. So, what helps you fall asleep? I need to try something new.
Ambien, LOL. I had terrible insomnia and difficulty falling asleep for years. My doctor gave me a prescription for Ambien and it made a huge difference. I don't even take it any more - it just seemed to help me get into a better sleep cycle. I will occasionally take melatonin now.
Non-medicinally, a hot bath or cup of tea always makes me sleepy before bed. I can't read to wind down because I get into my book and then it's 2 a.m. and I'm not sleeping because I have a book to finish.
I do a body scan (picturing each part of my body slowly turning blue while I breathe in and out) from the head down on nights when I can't sleep. I usually get to the shoulders before I pass out.
Boring podcasts. Or at least semi-boring enough that I'm not hanging on their every word. For me, it's better than tv because I can still have total darkness.
Also, I stole this from baby-sleep books, but having a routine helps. So when I'm trying to sleep during the day after a night shift, I always do the same things - shower, comfy clothes, food & internet time, then lights off and podcast playing on my phone.
When all else fails, benadryl and/or orgasm. Preferably AND.
