That is too bad that he was arrested for DUI (again), but I'm so glad he was arrested before he killed anyone driving drunk! I'm guessing he has an addiction issue, no?
So funny - I thought the same thing about using uber. He lives downtown!! Why is he even driving through the tunnel? Ridiculous. I don't necessarily think he has an addiction - just young, stupid and careless.
Dear god he's an idiot. He wasn't just driving a little tipsy (not that that would be ok, but you know...it wouldn't be AS bad) - he was swerving across lanes and speeding by a LOT.
The reason I take issue with labeling this as a drinking problem with no further evidence is because it shifts blame from Phelps' shitty ass decision making on both those nights to some unassailable force that not only compelled him to drink but get behind the wheel of a car. Then he gets to go to rehab and come out clean on the other side, his decision making processes still unquestioned.
I reject that notion out of hand.
Many people are alcoholics. Many people have trouble controlling their alcohol intake. Not many people have Phelps' resources to avoid ever being behind the wheel of a car while under the influence. That last fact should overcome any murmurings that he must be an alcoholic.
Wait...so he was at the horseshoe? And then got on 395 to 95 up through the tunnel? Where does he live anyway? I thought he lived downtown in one of those condos on the harbor?? HE COULD HAVE WALKED HOME.
and again - OMG TAKE A TAXI/UBER/SOMETHING YOU ARE RICH WHAT THE FUCK?

He was. Reports this morning said he was playing poker and blackjack, drinking beer. Such a dummy!

Right? Call a taxi to take your ass to a hotel or something ffs. He could charter a fucking helicopter to come get his ass.
WHY ARE YOU PLAYING LIKE THAT, FUCK FACE!
And going 85 in a 45? Is that because he has a drinking problem too?

Google tells me he lives in canton. Was he going up through the tunnel and getting off right on the other side? How much traffic could there have been that he had to avoid downtown? Shit, everyone knows you're way more likely to get a DUI on the highway than in the city!
I'm just glad he got caught before anyone got hurt.
I agree that 2 DUIs in 10 years is an entitled asshole problem, not a sign of alcoholism. Although I highly doubt this was the first time he'd driven drunk in that long.

There is actually a hotel directly next door to the casino. It's kind of a shitty hotel, but it's there. A holiday inn express or something. But it's right there. RIGHT NEXT DOOR.

I assume so. That's how I always get in and out of Canton because avoiding the inner harbor traffic is worth the toll to me, but I'm coming from the 'burbs to the south. And it's not usually 2 AM. And I'm not drunk. Nor driving 85 mph. Nor a giant raging entitled douchmonkey.
I agree he is an entitled douche but I also think he has a substance abuse issue. He has 2 DUI and a hx of marijuana use. I don't think saying he has an issue with abusing substances absolves him of anything.
the fact he was gambling also points to him having issues with control/impulse.
you can argue he is an asshole with bad judgement but that doesn't change the fact he appears to have some red flags for abuse.

If a history of marijuana use is a marker for abuse, half the board should be careful with that next glass of wine.

Ummm, the Holiday Inn Expresses that I've stayed in have been fancy!!!

If you really want to believe some gambling for 8 hours with multiple DUI with a hx of known drug use has no substance or addiction issues then koko. I don't think anyone I know one this board has the same hx.
