I have posted a few times that I am... disgruntled with my job. I am the CFO of a real estate development firm. I joined this firm after 12 years of public accounting. I'm not going to reiterate all of my complaints, but I would probably rate my job a 7 of 10 overall.
I peruse the job postings almost weekly. I also stay active on LinkedIn. I noticed a few days ago that a recruiter viewed my profile. Not a big deal, I've been connected to him for over a year, and there seem to be a lot of financial/accounting recruiters out there. It is not uncommon to see that a recruiter has looked at my page. However, when I was looking at job postings today, I see that that same recruiter has an attractive position posted. I meet most of the qualifications, however they want 3 years of supervisory experience within a large corporate setting. I only have supervisory experience in public accounting. Although my title is CFO, there is no one here for me to supervise yet. I do not live in a very metropolitan area, I'm not sure what businesses here would qualify as large corporate settings. In any event, I have never worked in anything remotely close to a large corporate setting, much less supervised within one.
I guess I have two questions -
1. Would you apply for a new position if you were 70% happy with your job? I am a work to live person and have a lot of flexibility and perks where I am. I worry that I would never be a 100% happy at any job, so I've got it pretty good now.
2. Would you apply given the lack of supervisory experience in the corporate setting?
Thanks in advance, writing this out gives me a better perspective.
#2 would not deter me from applying at all. I think there's some stat that women wait to apply for a job until they meet every requirement whereas men feel they're qualified if they meet a majority.
I would apply. The worst that can happen is they don't call you. The best is that you could be perfect for the job. You will never know unless you apply.

Yes to both. Applying never hurts anything. Worst case, you never get an interview. Best case, you get a fantastic new job. And I would most definitely apply if I met most of the qualifications, which it sounds like you do.

Yes and yes, for all the same reasons OPs said. You definitely won't get the job if you don't apply, and the worst case scenario is they offer it to you and you say no.
Thanks for the replies. It occurred to me, as an infrequent poster, I probably wouldn't have written the OP if I didn't at least want to see where things go in applying for the new position. I sent in my resume yesterday. Thanks again.
