Anyone else experience weight loss during pregnancy? Was everything okay with You and Baby?
I stepped on the scale this morning and I've lost a total of 6 lbs. since I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with gestational diabetes
My OB didn't say anything about my weight last time (2 weeks ago), but at that point I was only down 2lbs. so maybe they weren't too concerned at that point.
I'm curious what others' experiences have been after being diagnosed with GD and if anyone else has experienced weight loss related to GD or otherwise during pregnancy?
I have an appointment with my OB this Friday, so I know I can ask then...I guess I'm just worried and hopeful that everything will be okay
One of my friends (who was very thin/petite to start with) lost 4-5 lbs when she started the diet and only gained 17 lbs total. I think it's pretty common to lose weight/stop gaining once you're on it.
I didn't lose any weight after starting the diet, but I maintained the weight I was at and the after DD was born, I was down 18 lbs from when she got pregnant. A friend just had a baby and had GD and also ended up 18 lbs down.
I hated the diet but the weight loss was amazing. You don't cheat when it will affect the baby.
I'm eating about the same amount of calories as I was, but just eating more often and more carbohydrates than what I had been previously. I guess I just kind of assumed I would gain weight, so losing is/was a bit unexpected.
I definitely was not thin prior to getting pregnant though, so I can probably stand to lose a little and still be okay...I was just caught off guard a little!
Both times I lost 4-6 lbs the first week of starting the GD diet and stopped gaining any weight for the remainder of the pregnancies. I gained 22lbs with DD1 and 12lbs with DD2. Both OBs I had were unconcerned and the babies were fine.
I didn't lose weight beyond my pre-preg weight either time, but I did get to pre-preg weight 4-5 weeks after delivery without any effort, likely due to the GD diet.

I lost weight while pg and had G.D. I was 1 point over the acceptable mark but followed the diet completely. I was very heavy to begin with so I think INu the end of my 40 weeks I lost about 23 lbs.
Everything was fine and my baby was born weighing 7.1 pounds
I had gained 12 lbs when I was diagnosed with GD. It took about 3 weeks before I could get in to see a diabetic nurse. After that I started following the meal plans, and lost 7 lbs over the next few weeks. I gained 9 total pounds, and my DS was 7lbs 6ounces at birth. He was fine, and his blood sugar was perfect.
My step sister did. She was about 20lbs over weight to start though. Pregnancy seemed to suit her well. She didn't have full blown GD, but was put on a mild GD diet.
2 years later and she's heavier than she was right before she gave birth

I lost 5 lbs in the first week after I started the diet. I was not overweight to begin with so I was scared. The doctor was not concerned. I ended up only gaining 16 lbs total throughout he entire pregnancy and both baby and I were fine and had no complications.
My GD test is Tuesday. But as of right now I am -2 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight (I'm 27 weeks). I lost 10 lbs first tri from being so sick and have had a hell of a time trying to gain it back. Doctor was slightly concerned, but baby is growing, my stomach is right on track for growth and so they have backed off being concerned. I have 10 weeks or less left and even if I gain a lb a week from now on I still will maybe gain 10 lbs for a total of 8.
Then again I started getting morning sickness again since Monday. So three days of throwing up aren't helping this situation.
You should be fine though. Fetus is a parasite. They get exactly what they need and leave you the leftovers, so you may feel weak or tired.

I lost 35 pounds when I was pregnant and another 15 in the two months post pregnancy. I was diagnosed with GD at 7 weeks pregnant and lost weight rapidly in the beginning. My OB was concerned when the weight was coming off quickly, but my perinatologist was fine with it. My baby was perfectly healthy and was born 7lb, 7oz, 21". He's now 16 months old and I've kept the weight off.
Hey! I'm a April 2012 mom, but I saw your question...
I was on a GD diet for my second pregnancy. I didn't gain anything first tri and ended up gaining 30 lbs over my pregnancy. The combination of low sugar/starch/GI foods plus portion control really kept the weight in check.
My experience is very similar to other postings. My only addition is I kept myself on the D diet after giving birth & it helped me to lose weight after giving birth, one month after giving birth I was 10 pounds below pre-pregnancy weight. I mean I was fat then & am still fat but it did help

I lost weight and my doctor wasn't concerned, but I was overweight to begin with. I gained it back during the last 2 months. DS was 11 lbs 6 oz and I was back to my prepregnancy weight as soon as the swelling went down after delivery.

I wish. lol My favorite moment was when they told me her torso or tummy fat was in the 95th percentile, but was actually off the charts, and that I needed to work on getting those numbers down. And then I was put on bed rest. :/

I just got tested for GD yesterday, so I'm hoping I passed. I started this pregnancy on the heavy side (200+), hadn't gained any weight, and as of yesterday's appt lost 4 lbs. I'm seeing a high-risk OB due to other issues and she's not concerned so far and baby looks good.
Yay, I'm pretty relieved that others have had similar situations!
I am currently below my pre-preg weight now, but from what everyone has said it sounds like baby probably will be fine. She has been/was measuring right on in all previous ultrasounds (I haven't had any since 20 weeks), but hopefully all is still well

I can't speak for others, but closer to my due date I was going once a week for nst tests and an u/s to monitor the baby and my fluid levels. Have they mentioned this to you?
I loved getting to see her all the time and my doc called it when she said she thought I would have the baby before my next appointment.

I had gained about 17lbs before the GD diagnosis and ended up losing a couple and then staying the same. I was obese to start with. I ended up being about 10lbs lighter than pre-preg post partum. Baby was ver healthy and 6lbs 10oz.

They haven't mentioned any nst tests or more ultrasounds yet. I'm assuming I'm getting close to the point where they'll want to do weekly appointments though?
That's my one complaint about my OB office is that they don't really tell me what to expect next...If I want to know then I have to ask, but then I feel like I have a million questions and the doctors think I'm curious george or something, ha ha

At my office the timing & frequency of NSTs depends on whether you're on medication controlled or diet/exercise controlled -- something else for you to ask about!
Just a quick FYI, weight gain during pregnancy is not linear. I didn't gain weight every week, but I suddenly shot up 4lbs in about 3 days during my third trimester.
